Plenty of football players were and will be released from their teams this year. There will be no fanfare for them, no public announcements. Most of their names will fade into football obscurity serving in the future only as answers to obscure trivia questions. And that’s if they are lucky.
Then there is Peyton Manning. The Indianapolis Colts Field General for 14 years, Manning was released by the same team, the same man, who drafted him so long ago and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Was it a bit melodramatic? Maybe. But any sports fan worth their weight in beer and hot wings knows that emotion is what drives the best players in the league. And Peyton definitely is one of the best…maybe ever. So get your hanky and listen to Irsay and Manning end it for good. Snif.
