Looks like Joseph Ward Simmons, DJ Run, Reverend Run or whatever you want to call him, can be proud of one his children. After his eldest son Jojo Simmons failed to make an impact on the mainstream circuit with his corny crew, Team Blackout, and his daughters got in deep trouble with Uncle Sam, it looked pretty grim for the Simmons fam, but then there’s some light in Diggy Simmons. After gracing the most recent XXL freshmen cover, he has been holding it down for the legendary family with some dope music most recently on the hard-thumping banger “88” featuring Jadakiss. The kid is getting cockier by the song and who’s the blame him, with all the attention he gets? On the track he flows crazy and his swag is on hundred, when he spits, “You know my uncle taught Diddy/turned around taught Biggie/ and Biggie taught Jigga/ so you can only imagine what he teaching me.”
The production is chock-full of brolic snares and features Jay Z’s “Dead Presidents” and Lil’ Jon samples. The heir to the throne flows tirelessly throughout on this high-potential club banger. Jadakiss blesses the third verse and in vintage ‘Kiss fashion, bringing the 16 bar heat.
The song lacks anything deep conceptually and it is basically three-minutes of “swag brag” but still maintains a great vibe and distinct energy. The kid is definitely on his way to greatness in his era and might not have the same impact as his old man, but can definitely become the better rapper.
