Your thirtieth birthday is a mile stone. Gone are the childish endeavors of 20 something life (getting high, getting laid, getting over) and in rolls upper level responsibility (a real job, a real address, some real bills). It appears Amanda Diva chose to reflect her maturation through name. Diva is out, the government is in and she’s addressing some grown up themes in her latest, “This Too Shall Pass.”
I honestly don’t know how long this song has been around. I caught it here this morning. Seales has gone from 100 percent spandex to like a 30m percent blend and it’s all about holding down her man. Not in a ride or die manner, but in a warmth and understanding way that again speaks to her age. And it looks like her brief Floetry stint is serving as an influence.
I’m not sure how Amanda’s frowny-faced brigade is going to respond to this. There’s really not much to dislike. She’s no Aretha, but her voice compliments Ski’s mellowed out track well. Seales is one of the most polarizing figures in the genre though, so I’m sure they will find something to pick with.
So here you go, This Too Shall Pass. Enjoy, if you can.
