“Real journalism is publishing something someone else does not want published – the rest is just public relations.” George Orwell
With so much drama in the world today in our communities on both macro and micro levels, it’s always strange to see the news or people that claim to be journalists talking about all kinds of silly things and never what’s going on. The Firing Squad is here to take aim at all that is wrong with the world, starting with our own communities. Three men of color with no censor and no objectives but truth, justice and common sense. Each episode will deal with hot-button issues with honesty, straight talk, and humor whenever possible . No personality is untouchable, and no one is spared the venom, or the praise whenever fit.The format of the show is simple. Five topics a week with five minutes devoted to each topic, and a close by each individual member featuring a verbal shot of their own choosing. Today’s episode features the following tops:
This week the three amigos talk Drake and why there is so much venom aimed towards him when he would seem to be the antithesis of everything people complain about in Hip-Hop. Do the people not know what they really want or is Drake just an easy target? Is there actually a groundswell of hate for him?
We discuss the incident earlier this week between Puffy and T.I. in Atlanta. What would possess Mr. Combs to act out in such a way publicly? Can we blame it on the alcohol? Is Puffy so petulant that repeat felon T.I. had to be the voice of reason? What does that say for Black people and Combs in particular? Why did T.I., who was originally laughing at the beginning of Puffy’s mantrum change his tune? Are we nearing the end of a wonderful run?
Why do people of like to be “outside.” What is wrong with enjoying time with your family? Are they unable to be alone in their thoughts? Is it the cramped living conditions? Do they think they are missing something?
We tackle all this, plus give R.I.P. shoutouts to Reverend Shuttlesworth and Steve Jobs, plus our regular parting shots. No one is immune from the firing squads line of sight. Bung!
