Now, when I saw this I thought, “Marta?” Is Slim from Atlanta? What is he doing on the train? But after a quick listen it’s obvious this song isn’t about public transportation in the A. Martyr should never be spelled this way. There are no martyrs on Marta. Anyway, back to the story.
The duo of Sid Roams always hit the bulls eye when their creepiness is subtle. Pushing the boundaries of eerie unusually takes them into straight to DVD horror flick status. On Slim the Mobsters latest net offering, “Marta,” they manage the restraint needed for the track to work. Slim isn’t all that bad either.
Slim is sizing you up, feeling your fear and confirming that there is need for alarm. He’s all heart and C4 rides shotgun; at least when Prodigy doesn’t have the wingman seat. P lives off respect and ply’s his genius on the dark side because that’s where the best return is. This track is all about the quiet power wielded by bosses that don’t ever need to tell you they are in charge.
The hook is kind of amusing.
I blew myself up. I’m on some martyr shit. Now who you got a problem with?
Ummm… well not you. Not anymore.
The song has a slow steady pulse that almost reminds me of “Where I’m From” in spirit. Slim and P are captains that plan on going down with their ships if need be and someone needs to reconsider the spelling of this title.
“Marta.” Enjoy.
