Bon Jovi: Living On A Prayer For The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame?

By Odeisel

Eighties rock band Bon Jovi may feel like they’ve been “Shot Through the Heart” this week after not reaching the nominations for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but they are still going to “Keep the Faith.” The aging rockers, all in their fifties, were nominated previously, but have never crossed the threshold into the Hall. The band wasn’t even mentioned at this years nominee announcement. A band or an artist can only enter the Hall of Fame 25 years after their first recording has been released. Bon Jovi became eligible in the fall of 2009, but despite their legendary career, they were bypassed. However, many of their fans are claiming the iconic band should have made it the first time around.

Their influence and drawing power is still very formidable, as evidenced by their ability, even at this stage in their careers to consistently sell out arenas, a feat that most acts from their era don’t have a chance in hell of accomplishing. In fact, Bon Jovi often ends up extending tour dates. Their triggering album, the eponymous 1984 smash debut, Bon Jovi featured signature song, “Runaway.” Unfortunately, the band from Sayreville, New Jersey, will have to wait until 2012 for their next attempt. You would think with their worldwide fame and endless string of classic records, that the Band would be a shoe in. This year’s nominees include Eric B & Rakim,The Beastie Boys and Donna Summer. The rock legacy is currently being maintained by the likes of Guns and Roses, The Cure and Heart.

Bon Jovi has experimented with different musical genres over the decades, starting out with classic hard rock, which brought out their most famous material such as “Living on a Prayer” and “Bad Medicine.” Their music transitioned into Pop-Rock in 2000, with comeback hit “It’s My Life.” Their music range is considerable; making it suitable for any occasion. For those who love to air-guitar, Bon Jovi’s head-banging older material is perfect, whereas for a chill-out day, the relaxed country-tinged album Lost Highway, makes ideal background music whether you are playing partypoker on the sofa, you have some friends over or just want something light-hearted to sing along to.

While Bon Jovi has remained in the Pop Rock lane since 2000, evident in their Have a Nice Day album and their latest release, The Circle, their music legacy is cemented in the hearts amd minds of their fans and in the record books. Lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, has been keeping himself busy, despite the letdown. He has a small role in the festive 2011 film New Years Eve alongside Hollywood notables Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert De Niro and teen heartthrob, Zac Efron. In addition, Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” song, has also been featured in the musical, Rock of Ages. Whether the snub is intentional or the result of some strange algorithm, the people know the real deal. We’ll see what happens in 2012.
