Whenever you hear Hip-Hop and band you immediately think of the mighty Roots crew. If you’re a bit gray in the beard you may think of Stetsasonic. The Planet is down with those two but we have our eye on the future and when you’re talking about analog and the rich sound that comes from real instruments but framed in the Hip-Hop context, look no further than our friends, ArtOfficial. When the planet was little more than a blog, we took a look at these dudes and they submitted teir album for review. While we weren’t blown away by the album we were certainly impressed with their sound and the credibility of their music.
we’ve kept a close eye on them over the last year or so. the six man group, which includes a bassist, a keyboardist, a drummer, a saxophonist (who doubles as a flutist) along with two emcees has been fine tuning their sound and song composition. Sounds to me in the above jam session that they are headed for bleeding edge innovation and when they hit the big time, you can tell all of you friends you heard it here first. The music is so fluid, and from the last time we checked in on them, the emceeing has gotten more focused and confident. I’m looking forward to the full project. For now have the appetizer. Enjoy.
