Mickey Factz And Marsha Ambrosius Do It “For The Culture”

By Odeisel

You’ve heard it before. “It was all a dream…” Rapper X grows up dreaming about the music, the minxes and the mic. But most important they got involved that they love Hip-Hop culture. Somehow with all this love, once they actually get to where they had always dreamt they would be, that love gets lost in the attention and the hype and the trappings of wealth and the bubbles of champagne. And in the midst of the revelry, after their music has fizzled and most of the art is colored by commercial ambition they scream, “I do it for the love.”

Mickey Factz isn’t that far along on his career arc. He hasn’t released a major label album, he hasn’t blown up as of yet and while he did have a successful Honda promotion, he’s not instantly recognizable to the masses. Perhaps when he screams “For The Culture,” and invites Marsha Ambrosius next to him, perhaps he is sincere.

Mickey’s producer of choice Precize lays down a digital landscape with hard drums and digital strings. There is light distortion and atmospherics. This production may work for rappers but it’s the kind of backdrop that isn’t needed for a singer like Ambrosius, whose album is absent the over production necessary for people that can’t sing. Her hook is also off at the end of note which is probably a mixing/mastering thing.

Mickey talks the nothing to something game, and all the good things that are happening to him now. Most of it is probably still aspirational, but in the end the good life is used as a framing device to show that no matter how bubbly the bubbly is, the love is still his motivation. God-willing he attains his goals, we’ll see how that turns out. “For The Culture.” Enjoy.
