Limp Bizkit is about as easy a target for snarky music fans as you can find. It’s like shooting at the side of a barn with… a “Shotgun.” But we all know once the wave starts moving; people jump on just because they can. They forget the fashion trends and the Grammy nods. They forget Significant Other went 7x platinum and that Wes Borland is one of the most talented men holding a guitar these days. And it’s amazing you can forget, because “Shotgun” sounds like it could easily fit into Significant Other’s track list.
The demo for this was floating around early last year and features Fred in all his untweeked glory, screaming and rhyming about flying shells.

It was a pretty bad copy, but now we have it all finished and mastered. It’s solid in its self-homage, but only if you really liked Limp Bizkit the first time around. Wes shreds. The verses have a squiggly guitar riff that sounds like it’s been digitally modified to sound like its being performed underwater and the chorus is full on axe war. Fred raps, albeit with a tinge of Pac’s intonation at times. I guess Meek Mill knew what he was talking about. The patented Durst ego and misogyny are still intact and he’s still threatening to break shit.
“Shotgun” is the third track I’ve heard from Limp Bizkit’s upcoming album Gold Cobra and probably the best. I still don’t know if reaching into the past to dust off a long forgotten sound is wise, but these guys did it better than most. So if it can work, Limp Bizkit will be the dudes to get the ball rolling.
