Fashion and football would seem to operate on opposite ends of the spectrum. One is sweat blood and gridiron and the other is catwalks catfights needles and pins. For the past 4 years, they’ve had common ground in New York with the Fashion and Football NFL Draft Congratulations Gala.
This year, amid a cloud of uncertainty regarding not only the draft, but the NFL lockout, the festivities were in question (the ballers ain’t popping that champagne when the checks aren’t coming in), but some of fashion’s rising stars and young draftees still managed to get together for the event and have a good time.
Planet Ill managed to get some good real estate on the carpet and interview a slew of characters ranging from draftees, pro wrestlers, designers and Oprah’s stylist to name a few. Here are some flicks from the event, sponsored by Miss Jessie’s hair products, White Castle (duhlishus) Jose Cuervo Platino (chea!) and Samsung among others. While the star power wasn’t its usual level, bellies were full, everyone had their fill of drink, and someone had to clean up a boat load of empty White Castle boxes. There were cupcakes from Baked By Melissa.
There was a silent auction, with all proceeds going directly to The Jarvis Green Foundation, created to provide support for single mother’s in disadvantaged, low-income areas. Enjoy the pics, enjoy the vid. Fashion and Football 2011.
