New Zealand is a long way from Harlem, but that’s the journey that Duck Down artist David Dallas is currently undertaking. The Half Samoan rapper, possessed of a computer Science degree, is half a world away from home, carving his path out with mixtapes and videos hoping to ply his trade on the higher level. Associating with one of Hip-Hop’s greatest labels would go a long way towards converting that fantasy to reality.
The Planet caught up with Young David in Harlem’s Amy Ruths’ restaurant to talk parents who didn’t understand until they saw him on television, the death of radio as a viable music medium, and whether or not his music packs enough of a sling to slay the Goliath of Hip-Hop consumption. Is young David fit to be king or will he awaken from his dream like Bobby Ewing from Dallas? Peep the interview and be the judge. As an added bonus, he released his mixtape earlier this week, The Rose Tint. Put up or shut up time. See if he delivers.
