And The Beat Goes On: Nicki Minaj Is Cut Down To Size While Lebron’s Mom Just Cuts Em Down

By shelz.

Another day, another dollar and another round of giving light to folks who couldn’t come up with their own song.  And The Beat…  is back and it brings with it plenty of songs that you have heard before, just by other people.  You know, the ones who actually wrote them.  Anyway, before we get to this week’s gaggle of ganked goodies, we are going to look at a couple of things that happened this week.  Things that made me say… No.

So Lebron’s mom has some punch speed on her? She’s kicking valet ass now?  It’s been reported that she got into a small rumble with some parking lot attendant after leaving the club last night.

*Sigh

I’m thinking maybe Lebron needs to institute some sort of curfew.  Or get her a chaperone or something.  She doesn’t do too well when left to her own devices these days.

Then we have Nicki Minaj making it to the Photoshop hall of fame with her Elle Magazine spread.  It’s not her fault and I don’t blame her.  I’m sure there are plenty of Elle readers who have never heard of Nicki Minaj.  The editorial staff should try to introduce the actual person to their readership and not some digital concoction reminiscent of Nicki Minaj.  When they see her again, they won’t know who she is.  That’s neither here nor there. I’m starting to think Miss Minaj is evolving into weirdness at such an astounding rate, she won’t recognize herself soon.  On with the show.

First up is Lola Monroe with Nicki Minaj’s “Did It On Em.” I’ve heard worse, but there is something in how she draws out her voice that sounds like she really is .. umm.. doing it on ‘em.  Ew.  Word to Nicki.  I’m not mad at Lola though.  This is the best I’ve ever heard her.  She just needs to expand hers lyrics past being a Boss bitch and dealing with jealous hoes.

Next we have Avery Storm making use of Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Coming Home.” It wasn’t great when Diddy did it and it’s not great now. Avery sounds like he’s having a hard time keeping up with this track.  Or maybe this is a mash up and no one told me.  Either way, I’m not sure this kid is going to ever outdo “Here I Am.”  Hopefully for him I’m wrong.

Lupe Fiasco’s version of “Airplanes” finally surfaced and it’s no better or worse than B.o.B’s.  The whole situation is a bit anti-climatic really because radio played this song so much, I could hear Biggie on the track and not make it through the whole thing at this point.

Moving on were up to Raheem Devaughn and his cover of 3 Stacks’ “Prototype.” This track is sublime regardless of what’s tossed on top of it.  Plus, it’s not hard to best Andre’s singing because as much as we hate to admit it, he’s not much of a vocalist. Devaughn’s sensuality can seem contrived at times, but he does have a great voice.  I give this a thumbs up.

Last is Wrekonize who wants you to look at him now.  This was in a real odd spot on my desktop.  I don’t know how long it’s been there, but hell, why not use it?  If it’s old, you’ll get over it.  This kid isn’t bad.  Its hard running through this track after what Busta did, but this is a wonderfully noble attempt.  I don’t know what he said, but he sounded good saying it.
