Alrighty folks, it’s Happy 420 Day and everybody is smoking whatever it is they smoke, so it’s a perfect day for And The Beat…. After a few puffs, you might not remember that these songs came out once, twice or three times already. Before we get to all that though, I’m really needing someone to explain all the Hip-Hop heartbreak going on these days.
Do you remember when all these Hip-Hop dudes didn’t love them hoes? Do you remember when young men were running around reciting the lyrics to Cam’s “Suck It Or Not” like it was all good? How about the time when it wasn’t fun if the homies couldn’t have none? Times sure have changed. Now tossing around shade born of the bitterness that ensues after that “hoe” decides she’s not interested is what’s hot. I figured the tide was turning when I saw men near and far singing “Fluck You” with a little too much conviction.

For example, Kanye West allegedly modified his lyrics to “Stronger” while performing at Coachella to let Amber Rose know that she was still on his mind.
“I did everything for that blonde dike and she did anything when the time was right.”
It’s a small change but makes a big impact when said “blonde dike” is watching your performance from the front row. That’s bitterness in full swing and gives added depth to the fact that Kanye was wearing a ladies shirt for his performance.
Then we have Mr. Bow Wow, who reached out to Ciara, asking her if they could perform a song together because he thought it would be “legendary.” However, it didn’t work out and the duo never got up and Wow felt some kind of way about it. “I’m single now. I ain’t with Ciara,” he yelled from the stage. And no this wasn’t in 2008. It was this past weekend. How many years ago was that? Sad business. But anyway enough of these weepy ass dudes. Let’s get to the music. First up is Uffie with “Wordy Rappinghood.”
Uffie – Wordy Rappinghood (Evian Mix)
Tom Tom Club gets ripped off a lot more than most people know. They weren’t the best, but plenty of their songs have become foundations for better things. This “Wordy Rappinghood” song is pretty horrible, and not even Uffie can save it. This is one track that should have stayed in its grave.
Next up, we have The Wombats covering Jesse J’s “Price Tag,” a song about trading your artful optimism for a big check and some fancy jewelry. I’d like the next artist who says they don’t record for the money to turn down their next check. Anyway, I like The Wombats on this. It’s odd enough to be campy. Good job.
Interpol – Try It On Salem Remix
Moving on, we have Salem remixing Interpol’s “Try It On.” I’m not a huge Salem fan. I do like Interpol, but “Try It On” is probably the worst song they have ever recorded. But, this match made somewhere other than heaven actually did this song a favor. It’s still not great, but it’s better than it was.
Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks (The Knocks Remix)
Foster The People -Pumped Up Kicks
The Knocks got their hands on Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” and branded it their own with a pretty dope dance remix. I still like the original better. So I posted that too. You can thank me whenever.
Last, but not least, we have Da Brat. I don’t know how long she was in jail, but it seems like forever. Do you remember when Katt Williams and Lisa Raye were talking smack about JD never visiting her? I guess it doesn’t matter now, because he was the first to put her to work. It might be more about adding some credibility to his career than him helping the emcee jump start hers, but work is work. Maybe this pair can help each other. Above is what they have been doing since her release. Let us know what you think.
