DC Comics has been living fat for decades off the backs of Superman and Batman. Movies, cartoons, television shows lunchboxes and a host of other things have kept the coffers full. But with such a wide universe of characters, aside from Wonder Woman, someone was bound to get the green light to blow up. For the last five years, under the helm of creator Geoff Johns, the Green lantern has assumed a large amount of DCU real estate, jumping from second tier character to clear A-list, with a movie starring Ryan Reynolds on the way.
But for all of that, the cartoons are the vehicle that can most closely capture the fantasy of such a cosmic character and The Green Lantern mythology involves a host of alien races and off Earth locales which translate well in animation. To complement the movie, DC has deferred to their strength and is dropping Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, which will chronicle not only the life of Earth Green Lantern Hal Jordan, but also the origins of five other Lanterns from other worlds, hoping to attract new followers to the Green Lantern mythos.
Below is the trailer. If you ask me, it looks like more fun than the movie itself, but that may be the comic book kid in me. Anyway, enjoy the trailer. We’ll keep you updated as the release date for the movie and the cartoon draws near. Peace.
