Cheaters never win and winners never cheat, but thieves make the music world go round. So I’m back to share some of the best and unfortunately, sometimes worst, in the weeks sonic stick ups. There are a few other things that come to mind as I sit here and ponder the week that was, so we’re going to talk about those too.
I find it amusing that some folks are up in arms about Snooki snagging the cover of Rolling Stone like you didn’t know the pop culture pool has a shallow end. If you don’t like it don’t buy it. Or better yet, buy the copy with Kwame’s little brother on the cover. I would like to know why Snooki is wearing a diaper in the picture though. Does she have a bladder control issue or does she work for NASA? It’s a little confusing.
Also puzzling is this whole Waka Flocka/PETA collabo. He raps about killing people but slicing a mink is a no no? Plus, I thought you had to be all kinds of animal free to work with these folks. Is Waka a vegan? Does he rock leather? He can’t wear Chuck Taylors every day. Plus that mini Buddha belly he’s developing screams cheese burger.

Anyway, on with the show. First up is Papoose.
I think Pap was on here last week, which means he’s working. I’m not sure how much that means, as I think he’s overshot his window to fame by a few years, but it’s nice to see folks keep busy. He recently dropped a mixtape, The 2nd Coming, and “Deuces” was one of the beats he decided to drop a little science to. It’s sweet, but not the best freestyle. I love this track, but Papoose really tests my devotion here.

Next is Pusha T with his special spin over Kanye’s “Lost In The World.” Well, it’s not special nor is there a spin. It really sounds like Pusha T doing a really bad Kanye impersonation. If I want to hear Kanye rap over this beat, well….I can. Sorry Pusha. First Cons, now this. *sigh*

Moving on, we have Joell Ortiz manhandling “Look At Me Now.” Even with Busta pushing this track over the edge and making us remember why we loved him in the first place, Joell carves out his own niche on this. This Sebastian Rios guy was on Free Agent, but I haven’t seen his name anywhere else. Maybe it’s someone’s alias. I guess time will tell. He rides this beat like Busta, but all in all this is entertaining.

Magnetic Man rolled through BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and covered, of all things, Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair.” This song frightens me. They take this sweet little girl and turn her into an evil cyborg kid. Or maybe this speaks to how we view the Smith family. Hmmm… Anyway, enjoy if you can.

Last, but not least, is J Holiday who dropped his mixtape MIA – The Lost Pages (I blame Indiana Jones for these titles) a few days ago and the statement with the tape read that it was all original material. However, I dug this gem up from the bottom half of the track list. J Holiday sings RFTW’s “Oh Sheila” and manages to do it without that odd English lilt on the chorus. Thanks J.
