What’s going on people? It’s time for our look at tracks that were passed around this week. You know it ain’t fun of the homies cant have none. Word to Nate Dogg.
That has to be one of the most misogynistic songs I’ve ever heard, but I still listened to it, didn’t I? *Smacks hand and moves on.*
I don’t have anything else to rant about so I guess it’s time to get to the point. It appears folks have been reaching further back than normal this week. I guess the latest and greatest isn’t all that great. Let’s go.
If you are as old as me, you remember this song. If not, welcome to Deee-Lite. This is a Gigamesh remix of the popular 90’s dance song, “Grove Is In The Heart.” The wrinkles are smoothed and the song has been given a spacey sophistication this go around, as Gigamesh removed some of the songs quirkiness. He also removed the Q-Tip feature which is No Bueno!

Just one more because I used to really love Deee-Lite.
I was afraid this next song was going to be Van Halen, but when I heard the Kris Kross track, I was pleasantly surprised. Wale talks smack about his clique and his broads; the money and the big body vehicle. His transition to a MMG representer looks like it’s going well. I guess next month we’ll hear stories about moving bricks and lunching with Escobar (no Nas). Hell, why not?
Moving on, we have Emilio Rojas with his take on Lupe Fiasco’s “Words I Never Said.” I still don’t like this track. I don’t really like what Mr. Rojas did with it either. It’s just all so draggy. My kid likes him though, so I guess that counts for something.
Emilio Rojas – Words I Never Said
Do you remember Fiend from No Limit? I don’t really either, but he has a new mixtape on which he snatches the intro from Prince’s “Adore,” loops it, adds a snare, and spreads bars filled with love on top. But his love isn’t for some chick; it’s for his Mary Jane. I don’t think we’ve ever heard that theme before. *Sigh*
Next we have Mickey Factz who swiped some elements from the track “Rome” by Phoenix and changed the name to “Ashes.” He drops some heartfelt lyrics about a relationship gone awry and communicates an odd fixation with cigarettes. I’m not feeling Mr. Factz here, but the Phoenix song is decent.
Last, but not least, we have two songs from the Knockz. They have gone way, way back to drop a little Motowny goodness. Again, there was a little confusion at the beginning. I saw “Aint To Proud To Beg” and immediately thought about TLC. I was wrong though, these guys stole this one from the Temptations. The second is The Supremes’ “Can’t Hurry Love.”
