It takes a lot for me lately to run out of the warm, comfy homestead on a rare week night off to hit up a music event at this stage of my life. While hopping on the Metro in Washington, DC to U Street Music Hall during a night where snow and sleet was supposed drop later, a sis was NOT in the mood to be disappointed in the sounds or vibe at the location.
Happily, it was definitely worth my time to roll out to hear Raekwon preview his coming album Shaolin Vs. Wutang.
After hustling through a dense crowd of people to the front of the stage (being short & small has its advantages), people got to hear some high quality music as the Chef treated his fans to a few classic records to tide them over until the real fun began.
The video below is of Raekwon dropping some new tracks from the “Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang” album, along with performing a few snippets of old school solo & Wu-Tang Clan tracks, kicking info & opinions as only he can on music and such (a mix of coherent, bugged & never boring) and other goodies.
All of the tracks we heard on “Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang” definitely knock with some serious hard-knocking production that’s a mix of new school beats and straight up classic definition Wu-Tang Clan head bangers filled with Soul & Rock Music samples.
Raekwon has definitely kept his darts sharp on the mic and the guests on the album tracks that were played (Estelle, Inspectah Deck and Ghostface off the top of my head) held down their own.
Sit back, relax and enjoy this installment of the Wu-Tang saga as it continues….
** Props to all of the Direct Drive Record Pool, DTLR & Unruly Records folks for holding down a great, chill music event! **
