Mania! is coming to give you something to spin until Pac Div can finally take the death grip off of their first studio project, Grown Kid Syndrome. Last week “Anti Freeze” was the thump thump of southern bounce, this week “Take Me High” goes old school R&B. So turn off the strobe and light some candles. It’s time to get cozy.
The track is a simple loop of the opening from Major Harris’ “Love Won’t Let Me Wait.” This one pre-dates the Luther version, so it’s nice to see the youngins are still digging in the crates. The added bass enhances what’s already there instead of taking this track into a new direction. Even the transitions that host some back and forth between the sax and bass are respectful to the original song. Well done.
Lyrically these guys tend to be more style than substance, and they again revisit the same few themes we hear from them. That’s not horrible, considering there are plenty of folks in the upper echelon who haven’t changed their steez since Donny Simpson was on BET, but it still can become a little monotonous. Drugs and broads, broads and drugs, broads who like drugs and drugs that make broads extra easy. However, as usual, the delivery is on point. Oh, please note this song hosts one hell of a horrible hook. Hopefully, that’s supposed to be humorous.
Pac Div says “Take Me High.” I just hope they stop singing about it. Enjoy.
