Jadakiss Tells You What It Is From His Coming Mixtape

By Odeisel

Things have been looking up for the Lox. They back with Diddy, they’re doing shows and all releasing music. With Sheek’s solo out of the way , lead rapper Jadakiss preps a coming mixtape I Love You: A Dedication To My Fans to pave the way for his next project. This track, “What It Is” is a tasty sample of what the Kiss has in store.

There is no chorus on this and no singing or pop elements, but there also isn’t much in the way of pizzazz. Ascending and descending piano keys that end in a flash over a chopped up “Impeach the President.” I believe the track was produced by Dr. Dre, based on the construction (it closely resembles  “The Watcher” in construction , minus the dramatic elements) and reference in the song. Solid but unspectacular. Hard enough to bump; not enough to frown your face.

You know what you are going to get from Jadakiss. His rhymes are delivered with confidence and his bars are tight, but there is no deviation from the two line rhyme scheme, but at least there’ not car the color of Smurfberries or homies from jail that still___. Don’t get it twisted though, he’s still hustling for those behind the bars, but this time the focus is on the fans, as Jada laments the return of pop to Hip-Hop. “Some n**as pay bills, some n***as pay ransoms, I don’t just sell my bricks, I advance them.” I see.

Solid beat plus solid rhyme equals a song his fans will enoy that won’t convert anyone else to the gospel of Kiss. Fit for the mixtape, good for your headphones and the whip for a few rounds. It is “What It Is.” Enjoy.
