The shrug. Hoops fans know. Way before Kanye hit Taylor Swift with the Yeezy version, Air Jordan did it back in 1992. It was Bulls vs. The Trail Blazers in the NBA finals, after Jordan had just won his first title the previous year. Coming into the series, people in basketball circles had the audacity to wonder which talent was superior: Jordan, or the similarly sized and talented, if not ruthless, Clyde Drexler. Much of that thought came from Jordan not really focusing his game on 3 point shooting.
Game 1 of the NBA finals arrives and the Air (who admittedly took the comparison far more personal than The Glide did) torched the ‘Blazers for 35 points in the first half of the game, including six 3-pointers, the last of which swished with a hand in his face from the taller Cliff Robinson. As the ball went through the hoop, Jordan, who couldn’t believe it himself turned to the sideline announcers, which included former rival Earvin “Magic” Johnson and gave the shrug.
Was it the shoes? Probably not. But the kicks he wore were the Jordan VII’s which are being rereleased in the Retro Bordeaux colorway. These are some of the most sought after Air Jordans ever, set to release on April 19th. You know you want them. See you on line.
