You’re smoking. They’re smoking. Your momma is smoking. Everyone is smoking. It would explain much of what we see in Hip-Hop these days, people being perpetually high and all. Before, drug rappers were dispersed evenly throughout the genre. Now everybody is selling drugs, using drugs or rapping about using or selling drugs. It’s starting to get a bit tedious.
I’m sure there were about 20 drug-related songs released in the last 24-48 hours, but I picked Cam and Vado’s “Sour Life” out of the hat. Actually, Funk Flex picked it out of the hat and I just smash-n-grabbed it.
Harlem’s dynamic duo decided Annie’s “Hard Knock Life” played out so well when Jay used it, they would re-visit. They picked another section of the chorus to chop and loop and there you go, “Hard Knock Life” redux. But this song isn’t about hard knocks; it’s about being happy and high, snatching up hotties and then dicking them down. It’s about being a wealthy recording artist and a big time drug dealer at the same time and being so cold with it that you can tell everyone your criminal business on a record and the ATF will over look it.
Vado does bring a bit of reality to the end of the song with some read-a-book-and-get-a-real-job advice, but who wants to do that when they can live the Slime Life? Cam said he left the Grammy’s to go unload some bricks. Pushing a pencil pales in comparison doesn’t it? The song isn’t great, but I’m sure Cam’s fans won’t care. Light it up and live the “Sour Life.” Word.
