Beat biters and dope style takers are the subject of the day as we get into another week of freestyle and cover mania. It was a slow 7 days unless you count the 1,628,254.4 freestyles over that 6-7 beats that were tossed into the Hip-Hop universe, but I won’t. I picked one and that’s it. Before we get to that though, I think I hear the clinkity clink clink of jail bars. Either Akon has a new album coming or the pen is turning into a Hip-Hop hot spot.
While Tip continued with his public soul searching and weekly fan outreach campaign, Ja Rule found out 3 hots and a cot await him. Wacka Flocka Flame’s house was raided. DMX learned he would spend another year with Arizona’s finest for a probation violation and Kat Stacks gave us the ingredients for jailhouse hooch. The strangest of all of these situations though would have to be G-Dep, who according to the NY Post wandered into a police precinct this week to confess to a murder from 1993.
I can’t say what I would do and I won’t question his decision. So before you start repeating the last sentence in the intro to “Rat.ta.tat.tat,” remember both karma and conscience affect us all differently. I just hope the truth, whatever it is, can bring the folks affected by this man’s death some peace.
Anyway, it’s time to get this show on the road. First up is Talib Kweli with “Back It Up.”
Mr. Kweli is spitting a lil something about posers and people who don’t believe in respecting your personal space over the Lloyd Banks single, “Start It Up.” This is far from my favorite Kweli joint and the chorus is a bit annoying. But even at his worst, he still out-rhymes a lot of professionals.

Moving on we have Black Thought manhandling Smiff N Wessun’s “Like a Champion.” The snippet is from Shade 45 and Black Thought gets started with a legitimate freestyle with Questo banging out the beat lunchroom style. Then Black spends the next minute or so giving himself some props and calling random rappers morons.

Gilbere Forte drops some bars over “Kush.” He’s a rough neck. He loves the ladies that love the smoke and he’s planning on being a fixture in this game. Oh he also said he wanted to bang Kiley Myrus. I wonder who that is. Forte is dope. Enjoy this.

Vampire Weekend decided to cover Cheryl Coles “Fight For This Love” with not so great results. Someone keeps saying they hear some Jodeci in here, but it seems to me Koenig sounds pretty bad. K-Ci never sucked wind like this. But anyway, someone out there might like it.

Last up? You guessed it, my one “6-7” freestyle. It’s Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q. Why? Because it’s the first one I found. Kendrick really sounds like he was trying to see how many words he could fit into two minutes. His boy Q seems to be doing the same thing. When the sentences are packed in that tight, it’s too much like work for me. I’ll let y’all unravel this, especially that wtf ending.
