“I Love the Way You Lie” was the catalyst of an opinion firestorm that ranged from kudos to disdain. Domestic violence is never an easy subject to tackle regardless of angle. There is rarely an outcry of any sort that is met with 100% approval; but in art, most heavy issues are addressed regardless of backlash. That’s kind of the point of being an artist.
So even though there is a gaggle of folks who believe Rihanna and Eminem should have stopped while they were ahead, the pair scoffed at being safe and went for the theme again in “I Love The Way You Lie Part 2.” The single is slated for Rihanna’s impending album, Loud and will again stir the masses.
It’s not horribly different than the original, from a construction standpoint. The beat from the first is re-worked, the speed is retarded and at points the full form is de-fleshed. There are softer elements added since the lead is now female. The piano is unburied and areas of digital strings are more obvious.
We all know Rihanna isn’t an award winning vocalist, and there are moments when she is out of her range, both at the bottom and at the top, but she doesn’t sound bad and the track works well with her skill set.
Em’s anger is replaced with Rihanna’s dark confusion. I love him, even though he has lost his mind. I should walk away, but I can’t. I don’t know at what point it went from light to dark, but I’m committed and in this to the end. It’s a poignant look at what plenty of women have been through. However, the lack of resolution; the acceptance of this fate from our fair victim is what drives the dissenters to complain. No one wants to see their sister, mother, daughter or best friend say “I know he will continue to hurt me and I will let him.” No one.
Eminem reprises his angry woman beater role for this song, but it’s a short visit and without 3 minutes of incessant yelling, this version is easier on the ear.
So feel a certain way or not, love the song or hate it; you can’t say Rihanna and Eminem haven’t made a statement. If we could live through “Stan,” we can live through this.

Eminem might not be your favorite rapper but that song is one of the greatest and darkest songs I’ve heard
@asid
I wasn’t referring to the quality of the song or ems performance. I was talking about the outrage that accompanied the song. Its a tough issue to tackle and em taking off the kidd gloves and giving such a chilling description bothered people. But we lived thru it just like we will live thru rihannas song. I respect his angle on both tracks.
