I’ll be honest. I like an unapologetic fluck you every once in a while. We are in an age when even a hello has to be prefaced with NO SHOTS because we fear retaliation, even of the intellectual sort. Sometimes it is a shot and when you take it, you should have the balls to admit you did. Passive aggressive is a hideous grown man quality. True story.

I say all of that to say, “Pray For You” is grand. Even though Reks makes some points I’d contend with if he was sitting next to me and he tossed a bird in Obama’s direction, I enjoy the fact that he owns his shots. He always has.

“Pray For You” presents Reks as a sonic desperado hell bent on bringing Hip-Hip back to its former glory by any means necessary. Rap lames have multiplied like Hip-Hop bunnies and all of them deserve 14 shots to the dome. Word to LL. There are special shouts to Solar, Waka Flocka and Plies. He spits on every fake ballin’, rap-by-numbers, test tube gangsta that exists and then he blames the entirety of the South for the rap ills that the aforementioned folks didn’t create. Reks also takes a short detour long enough to wish bad things on Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly.

Playing foundation to the vitriol is the wonderfully dark track provided to Mr. Reks by Statik Selektah. Thump and electro accents host some really eerie vocals. Disembodied laughter and wails float through, adding a sinister layer to Reks’ death wish for those who sin against the culture.

It’s not pink Nuvo bottles and drop tops. If you want to learn how to dougie take a left. This is for the soldiers of hardcore. They haven’t died or faded away and if you are an offending party, they might be at your front door sooner or later. Reks will “Pray For You.” Enjoy while you can.
