Planet Ill hosts a great deal of filth flarn flarn filth in its i-pages. We know it and we won’t apologize for it. However, every once in a while we all need a little live right music in our headphones. And contrary to popular belief, that particular listening session doesn’t have to be Sunday morning while you are nursing a hangover.
There is no wrong time for Mary Mary. The sister duo have been recording for over ten years and are partially responsible for unshackling the gospel sound and moving it into the secular realm; allowing you to praise your maker and two step at the same time. Their careful balancing act continues with the delightfully soulful “Walking.”
Producer Warryn Campbell put together a mid-tempo track with a great lounge keyboard and some serious bass slid under a little DJ scratch and some sparse cymbals. It’s close to Jill Scott’s “Golden” in spirit and just as able to entice a finger snap and head nod out the listener.
The sisters, who can probably blow away most of the women in your mp3 collection, weave a positive narrative about attempting to not just talk the talk, but to walk the walk. It’s easy to say you are going to do the right thing, but do you do it. When you backslide do you immediately dust yourself off and get back to being good? Of course not, none of us do. Life is live and learn and as long as you try, you are on the right path. Mary Mary said so and I believe them.
So don’t trip if you mess up, oh imperfect one. Take it one step at a time and understand that even when you are at your worst, a few baby step can get you back to your best. So listen to Mary Mary and keep on walking. You’ll get there. Word.
