San Antonio rapper Bugsy has been on his grind since the last time we spoke to him. His latest freestyle, “Hometown Kid” finds him still putting it down for the place he represents.

The beat is a nice ,slow grind; principally powered by 808 lows, chime-rung highs and paced by hand claps. Bugsy’s voice is a little on the high side to the track aids in balancing pitch and doesn’t have enough noise to drown him out or make his voice hard to hear. The track rides for a few measures before atmospherics come in for added motion and mood inducement.

The scene is the club and the bottles are popped, the cups are full and all the homies who are locked  are all handed out the collective wishes for freedom for locked up homies are shouted out initially. Bugsy has not words (well maybe a couple) for the haters and no tricking on the hoes (’96 no drinks what up Flexx). He’s too busy in the front row of the Spurs game shilling with Sponge Bob.  Either that’s someone’s nickname or Bugsy’s got WAAAY more juice than you. Sponge Bob is that dude. The haters try him again in LAX but he’s too busy leaning to mind. Word to Jamarcus Russell. Shouts to rap-A-Lot, Craig G and Chino XL are put in for good measure.

This freestyle is good enough for mix tape fodder. It’s not revolutionary by any means but it’s enough for you to bump really loud and test the limits of your speaker lows. Don’t ruin your factory system even trying. These lows are built for Bose.  Two and a half minutes isn’t too much to lose to shout out the “Hometown Kid.” Enjoy.
