A few months ago, while Cee-Lo Green was preparing for his trek down Lady Killer’s promotional road, he was pumping out material at a pretty decent clip. The obligatory pre-album mixtape was joined by some interesting collaborations and an uptempo rework of Band Of Horses thoughtful “No One’s Gonna Love You.”
Well it appears the good folks from Band Of Horses have decided to return the favor by covering Cee-Lo’s “Georgia” with the University of Georgia’s Red Coat Marching Band in tow. The regional love is beautiful and all, but Ben Bridwell is from South Carolina.
State lines aside though, Bridwell has roots in the state plus he’s a Bulldogs fan so why not give props to the Peach State and Green with one song. (It’s quite amusing to hear Bridwell recall happy times on Campbellton and Cascade.)
Bridwell isn’t the vocalist Green is, so you will need to relax your standards a bit. The marching band is a great addition and adds tons of depth, but the layering of the vocals at the end is not. All in all it’s a decent cover. Of course I prefer the original. Then again I also prefer Cee-Lo’s rendition of “No Ones Gonna Love You” better too, but don’t take my word for it. All four songs are below and word has it that Band Of Horses version of Georgia and Cee-Los version of “No One’s Gonna Love You” will be released as a 7” combo soon. I wonder which will be the B-side.
