Saturday’s AvengersAssemble panel featured Tom Brevoort, Brian Michael Bendis, Christos Gage, Paul Tobin, Jim McCann, Bill Roseman,  Sean McKeever. The group went over the coming news under the Avengers line of titles and related books. The Avengers have firmly cemented themselves as the flagship line, with Hollywood paying close attention, but the books themselves is where the action originates. **Spoiler Warning**

With Avengers # 7, The Red Hulk joins the group. Every storyline is an event. Promo trailer

Bendis-jokes about Avengers joining DC’s 52 referring to the crazy time line board from an earlier issue with possible Marvel future. You can figure out a bunch of things from the picture and possibly figure out the coming year.

Secret Avengers-Tom- Crew will be joined by Shang  Chi and The Prince of Orphans as the shadow organization from the first arc tries to resurrect Shang-Chi’s Father(No? longer Fu-Manchu as Marvel no longer owns the rights to that name.”

New Avengers-Who is the nanny for Luke and Jessica’s baby Danielle. The Nanny will be Squirrel Girl! She has a hidden past with some of the members of the group. Very vested in the baby. Dozens of people audition for the role, and you will meet all the applicants in the book.

Avengers Academy-By Cristos Gage who is now exclusive with Marvel. The Issue 6 spotlight is on Reptile cameo by Devil Dinosaur. In #7 Giant Man returns and Hank fights the Absorbing Man. Traumatic event from Tigra’s past happens in issue 8. When The Hood assaulted Tigra and threatened her family and filmed it, the tape surfaces online and snippets are seen and a sleazy company sells the entire tape. Question is, what would happens when the kids see the tape? Do they want to get revenge or does it make them think twice? Do they think it’s cool? How does Tigra react?

Gage envisions a teen hero prom. All the teen heroes in the Marvel Universe have a prom.  Seriously.  Dec 15^th when Avengers Academy #7 comes out.  How much respect is there for Hank? He’s been through a lot but he’s a founding Avenger. He’s trying to lead the kids to a better place. Giant Man is always the most iconic version of Pym. We’re not getting rid of all the character development but going back to the Giant-Man character.

Arcade: Death Game. Young Allies, Spider-Girl and Avengers Academy crossover which uses Arcade as the villain. We looked back at his life and see how he gets job after job and always fails. This is how Arcade gets his groove back. Check out Paul Tobin’s Spider-Girl.

Widow Maker. In December, featuring Hawkeye, Mockingbird with Black Widow. Comes out after last page of Hawkeye/Mockingbird issue #6. It was going to be a crossover now it’s its own event. You will see a new Ronin. There are spies everywhere that are being killed with no seeming rhyme or reason. You will see where Ronin came from before Echo got the costume and a very cool new super villain group who is behind this as well as who is behind the Ronin mask. How it is resolved will spring forward to what’s next. Both Bobbi and Natasha are spies and they are next on the hit list.

Secret Warriors Ending at issue 27 in April. Double-sized 25^th issue which will reveal all the background of the Zodiac stuff. We’ve always had an ending and it’s nice when Marvel lets you have a story when you have a beginning, middle and an end. A lot of people die. A major thing happens in issue 21. In these last issues, we’re building to big things happen. It’s been a bit of a slow burn as we give out the background issue. As we near the end, it gets fast paced and there are big payoffs.

S.H.I.E.L.D.-Doing something really special with this book. It’s important to note that the writing really saves the art in this one. Kidding. This is a story that takes place in the 50s. It is a secret corner of the marvel universe we here we see people in time doing things the marvel way. The struggle of man through time and whether we accept the things in front of us or whether we make our own future.  Ridiculous book shocking it survived I’m having a blast thank you for supporting it. Captain America trial of Captain America. Bucky has to answer for being the Winter Soldier. We’ve been moving towards this since Bucky put on the costume. He was going to have to face the music for all the things he did even though he wasn’t responsible as the Winter Soldier. Zemo has sent this evidence out into the world that bucks was a soviet assassin. Bucky will turn himself in and stand trial. While this is going on Sin, the new Red Skull attacks the Statue of Liberty. When this is all said and done, we get to March which is the 70^th anniversary of Captain America. It will be another turning point and a 100 plus page “monstrosity.”

The Winter Soldier should not have worked. We had argued that you couldn’t bring him back. Ed found a way to do it and make it so interesting and beloved that people preferred him as Captain America. The lion’s share of making people like Bucky as Captain America is due to Ed Brubaker.

Astonishing Captain America from Andy Diggle and Adi Granov. Big sweeping adventure story. Espionage, spy and counterspy. Electrifying  artwork will put the stamp on Cap as he did on Iron Man Extremis. Light on continuity (astonishing line) limited series.

-Tom The Mighty Thor #615-the first issue is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s going to drive that series and the rest of the Marvel Universe in the coming months. Pasqual Ferry is doing beautiful work. Matt has only started to plunge into what he’s going to do. Going to change and shake everything up in such a way that it will spill out into other titles. It’s the one title I would point people to if you’re looking for something that will set everything up in the next 12-24 months.

Thor: Heaven and Earth looks at Thor’s world through different perspectives with different artists

Iron Man going to #500 in January. 5 cover gatefold by Marko Djuerdevic.The story involves Spider-Man and The Mandarin and sets up some ithings for the rest of Marvel. Issue will be 100 pages and  sets stage for the course of the next year Bendis says it’s one of the best ideas one of his friends( Matt Fraction) has ever told him about their books

Who would like to see Rhodey in his own series? Iron Man 2.0 from Nick Spenser and Barry Kitson. Feb 2011. Rhodey is adjunct to the U.S. military taking the Iron Man and finding a more military industrial use. Brevoort takes shots at Kitson’s Supergirl jokingly.(nick spencer) Going to see Rhodey use his brains and adapt to the new face or war. He’s going to have to evolve or die. Onslaught Unleashed -Big event coming in 2011. Courtesy of Sean Mckeever. When Onslaught arrived in the 90’s he was the major threat. He exists again and he’s been in the Negative Zone where time moves swiftly so he’s been waiting a very long time for his revenge.

Tell me something big will happen for Jessica Jones

-Bendis-New Avengers issue # 8 will be a big issue for Jessica. Making a decision on what kind of hero will she be. It will start a snowball effect for the character. She’s my baby.

Will the continuity issue with age of Wiccan & Speed will be addressed?

-Tom Assuming they come of age and have a talk with Wanda this issue may come up. I tend to think it may be will be answered in the course of Avengers: Children’s Crusade

With Avengers related movie s do you borrow elements of the movies or attempt to influence the movies with the books you write?

Bendis-When you see Downey’s interpretation of Iron Man, it’s infectious. The one thing for sure is when you see it done right you want to go home and write again. You want to do that in the book.-

Since Carnage is getting his own mini is there any hope for his son Toxin?

-Tom no immediate plans for toxin. I didn’t know anyone remembered Toxin. At some point we may get back to him.

Avengers and New Avengers-from a character story perspective how are those two books different?

What about the mystery behind Mockingbird’s father hinted at earlier?

It’s a story that I’d like to pick up but I can’t really talk about it right now. It’s a seed that I wanted to plant and want to see grow-Jim McCants

Will we see more X characters beside Wolverine in Avengers titles?

Tom-To a certain degree I’d like to be. But what you will see though is a movement on the part of the X-Men, going out and establishing themselves as a heroic force for good again. They’ll be teaming up with Spider-Man fighting the Sinister 6 or fighting side by side with Iron Man and Cap, reestablishing that the X-Men are heroes and represent the good of mutants. We’ll get to it when we can get to it.

Is it just Red Hulk you’re adding or are you adding anyone else?

Bucky will be busy with his trial and the New Avengers haven’t settled their team yet. New female members will be on the main Avengers teams as well. More surprises to come. (Bendis)

With a Cap movie coming out, will there be a sequel to the Marvels Project or more Cap flashbacks to WWII? Also Danny Rand should stay an Avenger.

-Brevoort-In terms of the Marvels Project those threads will be picked up in Secret Avengers. We’re talking to Ed about doing an arc in Cap proper about Bucky’s whole life, from growing up and joining the army to becoming the Winter Soldier. Captain America: Hail Hydra also reflects that time period. Another project in March coming that will also speak to that history. With Cap you almost can’t help but touch on that era.

Will any members of the original Thunderbolts play a larger role in the Avengers?

They will in the Thunderbolts. There is one character next year that will have a greater impact on the Avengers.
