Curren$y keeps that J.E.T. Life flying high with the homie Boo Sledge on “Still Choppin.” The track is full of contributing musical elements including a slight bass, whirling synth and pacing strings that nestle atop a simple drum. It’s a departure from the live music he had incorporated into his sound and a bit more conventional, sans the rock guitars and live drums that populated the bulk of Jet Life.

More of Curren$y’s Nolia heritage exists within his vocal inflections in the absence of those big guitars. He switches mid verse to speaking in third person and employs a few technical tricks during his verse. The weed and high talk are there in abundance as usual (how else is the jet supposed to fly high) but there are lines galore including, “You weak, I’m a seven day planner.” He takes his verse from Harold’s chicken with mild sauce to Cali weed to the Florida panhandle.

Boo Sledge’s verse is colored by his high pitched faux pimp voice; a cross between a young Snoop Dogg and a bad Money Mike impression. Hold your palm pilots. He’s in Vegas at the crap table, he’s smoking cigars, he’s got the chicks at arm’s length cause they after his money. You’ve heard this verse a few hundred times from a few hundred rappers but he doesn’t do a bad job with his version of it.

“Still Choppin” is prime mixtape/album filler material that can safely exist in a vacuum.  Smoke to it crack a joke to it, you may even poke to it. Just don’t have a stroke to it. Enjoy.
