I feel really bad for anyone in Young Money who isn’t named Nicki or Drake.  There is something very red headed step-child-ish about how their “careers” are being formed.  Their obvious neglect at the hands of “old money” makes them easy targets for folks who get off dissin the acceptable target of the day and you rarely hear any defense from their camp.

They are regularly given less than stellar tracks to work with.   They get little to no promotion and that Katt Stacks chick didn’t help.  No one stood up and said hey “we have our own beds aaaand a vacuum.” I’d say they were similar to Cinderella, but I don’t foresee a glass slipper in their future.  Even if they did find one, I’m not sure how well they would clean up.

“Salute” again finds them in a bad situation.  The order seems based on talent which makes you want to fast forward through the first minute and a half, or play it backwards.  Maybe these kids are there just to make Jae, Nicki and Wayne sound even better than they are.  Who knows.

Anyway the track sounds like a weird re-tread of Jezzy’s “Mama Told Me.”  The brothers Lil (Twist and Chuckee) start the cut to sputtering, but Gudda and Millz come in and rescue the song from being stopped short of the last inning goodness.  Nicki gives a capable verse, nothing special.  Wayne plays clean up with that “sick with the flu” flow Twist claims in the beginning of the song.  He’s dope but Shanell’s chorus is just blah.

The bottom line is Wayne is still cold.  His lieutenants have earned their stripes, but his foot soldiers need to go back to basic training.  Salute.
