Ricky Hatton and Bruno Mars holding? A Rick Ross sex tape? Eddie Long luvs the kids more than Trick Daddy? Cudi and Wale are no longer friends till the end? Damn damn daaaaaamn (word to Esther Rolle.) This week has been some nonsense.
At least the music has been great, or err…some of it. The Roots and John Legend presented some great old school favorites to a new audience and 24 Hour Karate School managed to kick ass even without Mos Def. So I guess you can take heart in the fact that our creative forces are still grinding even if they are high while they are doing it.
And The Beat Goes On is on its weekly mission to bring you the best and sometimes worst of the beat biting battles that go on regularly. We also try to snare some covers for your de ja vu enjoyment. So let’s get it started in here. Word to Will.I.Am, the black faced pea.
First up… French Montana with “Deuces”
I’m posting this because I love this track. We know French Montana isn’t the best rapper in the world, but French Montana the auto-tuned singer is even worse. The song is amusing, unless you take your feminism a little too seriously. Then you’ll be mad. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Next we have Dawn Richard; one 5th, 4th or 3rd of Danity Kane depending on what month you caught them in. She’s also one half of Diddy’s back up singing duo Dirty Money. She may have been inspired by Soundgarden releasing its compilation Telephantasm this month as she took a whirl at their mega hit,“Black Hole Sun.” She doesn’t nail it and she sounds like she’s singing into a tape recorder, but I appreciate her attempt.

Moving on brings us to Jay Rock. This dude’s voice sounds like it weighs a ton and he manages to growl when he’s not even growling. Nasty. Anyway, he’s hopped on Flocka’s track “Hard in tha Paint” and while he’s a little late, it’s not bad. He lays back on it, calls a whole bunch of folks out of their name and wilds out about as aggressively as he can. He sounds mean right? I guess that’s the point.

We’re going to take a hard left and meander into electro pop territory with Parallels, yet another newcomer out of Canada. In an odd twist, this crew has decided to cover the Ramones. However, they didn’t reach back into their fabled golden years. Parallels decided to re-work “Pet Cemetery.” I can’t say this is even close to being my favorite. Then again, they didn’t ask me.

Last but not least we have Pendulum covering Linkin Park’s “The Catalyst.” I don’t like it. It’s over embellished and a little too busy for my taste. However, the general consensus is that this version rocks. So don’t take my word for it. Tune in and tell us what you think.

Oh and just in case you didn’t know, this is the song most folks pluck from The Ramone’s catalog to cover. Adios.
