We kid Usher on this site a bit, with no malice, especially for his last couple albums. But one thing that can never be taken from him is his ability as a performer of the first order. Even when his music is inconsistent, his stage show is alwasy meticulous, exciting and most definitely in full effect. This morning we got treated to a performance along with thousands of other early risers to see Mr. Raymond in Central Park NYC as part of ABC’s Good Morning America.
Six in the morning conjures images of Ice-T rapping and the LAPD comign through with the “batteram.” This morning it was just how early you had to get a spot and not be i the boonies to see Usher. We watched the rehearsals and the performance from start to finish, which was cool to see the behind the scenes action and the work put in to these shows. He only performed two songs, “OMG” and “DJ Got Me Fallin’ In Love Again” but he did enough to satiate the capacity crowd and make sure we got our show’s worth.
The band was funky with heavy synths and drums and a guitar that you dont normally hear in Usher’s music that added some aural depth. The female dancers wore cut-off shorts where the pockets are longer than the denim and the guys had classic rock group t-shirts, featuring groups like U2 and Led Zepellin.
