I’ve noticed since this new Cee-Lo has dropped everyone round the net has found themselves in his shoes, loving and agreeing with the sentiment. However, what happened to the folks on the receiving end of that big ole f*ck you. I mean, if someone is saying it, someone else is hearing it right?
Someone has to be the evil doer. Someone has to be the gold digger. Someone has to be the guy in the fancy car who gets down with OPP. There are way too many songs like this for everyone to be innocent. Own up to it and take your FU like a man (or woman.)
Anyway, now that I’ve explained why some of you should be hanging your head in shame and listening instead of singing, let’s get to the nuts and bolts. It’s a verdant old school soul piece with great background vocals, a church organ and a tambourine for extra soulful effect. An energetic guitar and funky bass line round out the organic feel of the uptempo foundation. Its sounds like some sun shiny love lyrics should be spread over it, but unfortunately love don’t live here anymore. It rode away in a Ferrari.
The target of Mr. Green’s animosity wanted a man of means and Cee-Lo didn’t have it. I guess ole dude in the Ferrari is of the “it ain’t trickin’ if you got it” persuasion. Sorry Carlos, but they’re perfect for each other. Suck it up homeboy.
This song is awesome. I’m not going to prattle on any more about it. Just listen.
