Good afternoon and welcome back to the sickest Sunday on the net. Today is Easter Sunday for Christians all around the world. This weekend is also significant for the birthday of Marvin Gaye, and the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The week itself was memorable for Planet Ill as we closed out another month of progress and growth.
We opened with a review of Erykah Badu’s new album Erykah Badu-New Amerykah Part 2: Return of the Ankh. While the album was a breath of fresh air to some, the Dallas PD didn’t share that view. Charges (minor ones) are pending. Craig David also had an album release where he attempted to remake some classic standards. A valiant, but wasted effort. We had a two part interview with Rhymefest where we asked him whether he was ready to die for his art. His answer may surprise you.
The White Stripes’ live album The White Stripes-Under Great White Northern Lights showcased music from their 2007 Canadian tour. Speaking of stripes, we took a look at flags, the Dixie flag in particular and why you can’t just fly it without considering its full legacy. Barenaked Ladies dropped a new release, this time without one of their founding members, while MGMT attempted to shake up the formula that made them the hipsters’ favorite.
We belatedly celebrated procrastination week with a piece on albums you hear about but never see (Hi Detox). Shelz gave a nice chin up to artists who persevere in the face of their hating homies and dropped her weekly look at freestyling And The Beat Goes On. We celebrated April Fool’s Day with a “review” of Ron Artest’s 2007 “classic” My World.
To close out the week, A Negro And A Keyboard took a shot at T.I.’s release from jail with the weekly You Wild, DJ Fusion delivered her regular excellence with Indiesent Exposure, and we interviewed Wordspit, fresh from a bunch of success and a bit of hate for his McDonald’s commercial. And now, onto the music.
