I haven’t had a cigarette in three days. My folks have stepped up operation get shelz to lay down the cancer sticks and I have obliged. Only problem is I’m in a mood more rank than Limburger in the summertime. Too bad for the following artists. I really like most of them, just not this week. Enjoy.
Crooked I – “Sittin’ Sideways”
Well, Crooked is back and he declares as much on his track jack of Paul Wall. He removes himself from any further Ice Cube beef discussion even suggesting he could be the link between the old and the new west brigades. Of course there is talk of getting in panties and shooting people, but he also gives a nod to the lean. It’s, at the very least, insensitive while freestyling on a TX son’s track. He even mentions Bun B, but no Pimp C while he claims his lyrics and flow are fueled by Promethazine, the substance that helped kill Pimp C and DJ Screw. RIP…

Dice Raw – “East Coast Lemonade”
I’m I’m I’m going to hope this is a true freestyle. Dice Raw has been a satellite around the Roots for years and he’s kept that spot because he produces. This stutter step in rhyme is far from new, but it’s not for everyone. Even the incomparable Dice Raw is entitled to a misstep and what better place to fluck up then a Gucci track. It somehow lessens the blow.
Rock – “Over Freestyle”
The Rockness Monster has the best voice in Hip Hop hands down and when mixed with his amusing delivery and love of metaphors, it makes for great expectation when he releases anything new. Well, there is way too much Drake on this. Even if you aren’t sick of this song yet, the FM dial will make ill a reality for you. There is only one Rock verse here as he throws some gutter on the glitter and I’m still mad he referred to Kim Elise as “the other broad” in Set It Off.
Lil Flip – “Dope Boy Fresh”
If you show up everyday, someone is bound to notice you. Sometimes success has less to do with talent than persistence. Not that either of those corny ass sentences has a thing to do with Flip, but he has been a presence on the net recently. I guess he’s hoping T.I. has a few more harsh words for him and that somehow will retrieve him from the Hip Hop black hole. Anyway, I can’t say I listened to what he said. If the feeling moves you, let me know if I should be paying more attention.
Sugar Tongue Slim – “Ill Street Blues”
Dope. If I continue, I might find something bad to say about it. So I won’t.
Until next week kiddos when I’m sure Ill have plenty stories of breaking wrists and kicking shins as I traverse the tricky bridge to a healthier, smoke free lifestyle. Closing things out today, I have a non-freestyle for you. Backing up off that Harajacoolio Barbie nonsense, I’m more inclined to vibe with Janelle Monae. Most definitely looking forward to this chick’s album. Anyway, here’s “Tightrope” with Big Boi.
