And The Beat Goes On: Bun B

By shelz.

You have to love Bun B.  Yes, his flow is throwback.  He doesn’t strangle his competition by chaining words together, twisting metaphoric knots around their necks and pulling tight.  It’s not flowery.  Not a whole bunch of upper level imagery and narrative that some emcees pride themselves on. It’s smash mouth Hip Hop baby; a big distinctive voice that has no respect for intros, breaks or hooks.  He barrels down his own straight path in that candy car reppin Texas and tossing shots at all the candy boys. And this fixture from the dirty dirty has a new mixtape dropping.  For those who want dates, times, track lists and formats just listen to what the OG has to say on the front end of “No Mix Tape”:

Man a n*gga called me talking bout B? What’s the name of the mixtape? When it coming out? I said bitch this is the mixtape. We going live right now hoe.  This track 7. You better keep up bitch.  Know what I’m talking about?

It’s funny to think some folks have forgotten about those days when you actually had to put your shoes on and head out to the streets to pick up some music. Now the free downloads bring eyes rolls and poked out bottom lips if the cover art ain’t dope or the producers aren’t contained in their .rar file. But even if Mr. B does make you cherry pick these singles off one at a time and create your own folder that would be perfect for him and his classic Texas attitude whether you like it or not. Anyway, some of the material that has dropped so far are runs over some familiar tracks.  So for the second edition of And the Beat Goes On, Mr. B is our focus.  Enjoy.

First is Chris Brown’s “Transform Ya.” I’m sure Bun is the only grown man Hip Hop artist who could take this electro, dance, faux rock track and make it hard.  Bun completely ignores the build on the front end as he starts when the beat starts and spends the next three minutes growling at the haters, pulling cards and putting pansies in their place. It’s Beantown up, cunnilingus down and no love for suckas.  Let’s go. Bun_B-Transform_Ya_Freestyle-2dope

Next is Bun B’s flow on top of Jay-Z’s “On To the Next One” (guess Bun likes Swizz.) The King of Trill gives a quick shout to C and he goes in.  Bun pulls put the guns as well as other things as he professes his love for big gals with big booties. He kicks some more ass, lyrically of course and even tosses in a big up to Mr. “I’m supposed to ball” Beats. Bun B – On To The Next Year

“I Wanna Rock” was turned into “I’m on the Block” for the third beat heist.  Alright, Bun gets a pass, but this beat has been used more than MJ’s dance steps. Folks have been giving Scoop Deville some Bangladesh love with this one.  And Bun, the 6932nd rapper to use it covers some of the same ground he did on the first two freestyles.  He has nothing but disdain for your silly beef and your fake chain regardless of what it reads.  Once he gets started, you can’t stop him and he gets more done before 7am than a soldier. And for an added bonus down below we have a quick tutorial on how Bun gets it done without his pen or his pad.  Learn yourselves something kiddos.  Until next time…
