What’s the good word Planet Ill Folks!

It’s that time again during the week to get into a bit more of Indiesent Exposure to the masses – the weekly writeup and music download piece here on Planet Ill that strives to give some deserved exposure to quality artists doing their thing independent music circuit.

Pretty much every music genre is covered in this section – Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, House, etc.- to keep things a bit lively & diverse.

Hopefully, we’ll give your ears a temporary break from some of the audio wackness and/or iCoonery that bombards folks each day via the radio and TV airwaves.

If you like what you hear (some of which will hopefully be new to folks), support these artists as much as you can in the future – hit up their websites, purchase some product, go to shows, etc.

End of the day, they need to eat like everyone else for putting in their work somewhere down the line.

This past week, I’ve been in a bit of a Soul & Funk Music inspirational mindset – check out everything below from these talented artists and let your Planet Ill family know what you think when you get the chance:

N’Dambi – The World Is A Beat (Download)

Dallas, Texas’ own N’Dambi has been doing her thing on the independent music scene for a while (why any major labels – as far as I know – didn’t gotten at her heavy after the A Weird Kinda Wonderful LP is an absolute mystery).

The way I can describe how she does music is that N’Dambi hooks up a mixture up classic Jazz & Soul Music Sounds randing with some up-to-date types of great grooves and music production.
Her new album, The Pink Elephant, is dropping on the resurrected Stax Records music label on October 6, 2009.

Check out my favorite track from the release so far, “The World Is A Beat” and more information about N’Nambi on her official MySpace Page at http://www.myspace.com/ndambi.

Shafiq Husayn – Nirvana (Download)

Shafiq Husayn is one of the members of the LA/NYC Soul/Funk/Psychadelic production crew & performance group SA-RA Creative Partners. On the solo end, he’s done production work for everyone from Herbie Hancock to Erykah Badu.

His first official solo album project, Shafiq En’ A-Free-Ka, is also dropping on October 6, 2009 through the the Plug Research label and from my sampler, is going to be on that kind of out there, heavy groove musical vibe his crew is known for.

Check out the sampler track, “Nirvana” above for an intro into Shafiq Husayn’s style and for more music, hit up his MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/leossun.

The Angel feat. Jhelisa – Ultra Light (Download)

The Angel is one of the few really internationally known female music producers and music artists whose names has stuck out for the past few years with me with her production and remixes for artists as wide ranging as The Brand New Heavies, Mystic, The Pharcyde, Towa Tei, Divine Styler, Blue Note Records and her movie score work as a film composer for Gridlock’d and The Boiler Room.

With her own label, Supacrucial Recordings, the Brooklyn Born (now LA Based) sis has been putting out a lot of dope work recently, including working on the upcoming Supa Crucial Downtempo Remixes & Rarities album dropping in April of this year.

The single “Ultra Light” featuring singer Jhelisa that I’m highlighting is an exclusive that focuses more on The Angel’s downtempo & chilled music vibes that most know her for (though if you go through her music discography, she’s all over the map stylewise from Drum & Bass, to dubstep, Hip-Hop, etc.).

Get more information on what’s happening with The Angel on her official website TheAngelSoundClash.com.

Brownout! – Ayer y Hoy (Download)

Brownout! is an eight-piece psychedelic Latin Funk & Soul Ensemble that’s based in Austin, Texas.

They are a spinoff of the Grammy-nominated music group Grupo Fantasma and have done everything from doing music backup for Prince to they’re own solo music releases.

Brownout!’s latest release is Aguilas And Cobras was just released a few weeks ago on the Six Degrees record label. The track “Ayer y Hoy” is a mid-tempo track that’s one of my favoite joints from the album for the percussion, horns and piano interplay.

Check out more info about the group on their official MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/BrownOutMusic.

Wax Tailor feat. Dionne Charles – Leave It (Download)

French Producer Wax Tailor’s creative output has been compared to fellow music creators RJD2, Portishead and DJ Shadow in regards to his musical styles from his own solo music releases (including the album Hope & Sorrow that landed him both nominations from Victoires de la Musiques and US Indie Awards).

He mixes up old school Soul, Funk and Pop Music vibes (kind of on some 1960s Motown + Phil Spector type feel in my opinion) with Boom Bap Hip-Hop grooves with his work with pretty nice results.

One of the products from these results is the track I’ve chosen here for Indisent Exposure, “Leave It”, that features English Soul singer Dionne Charles. This track with others in on his latest album release, In The Mood For Life, now out on Decon Records.

You can find more info on Wax Tailor’s music and other upcoming projects at his official website, WaxTailor.com.
