Sorry for the delay folks, yesterday was busy as heck so instead of a Sick Sunday, I’m gonna open your week up with a Manic Monday. We’re still waiting for the first few releases from that 4th quarter but there’s a ton of music from all areas to bump until we get that shipment.
Today’s entry is a good mix of grizzled vets out for revenge and redemption, as well as new guys carving out spots with some solid heat. Enjoy.
Young Chris Feat. Beans & Free-The Last Two (Video Above)
State Property is still going hard without you know who, and this single from the guy responsible for a lot of his style the post-Blue Print has been on a rampage like the wool has been pulled off his eyes. This song is mean and vicious and flat out dope. They shot the video, we got the video. The Roc lives, even if Fred and Barney no longer run it.
Termanology-I See Dead People
Termanology “I See Dead People” (prod. by The Alchemist, directed by John Colombo) from Clockwork Music on Vimeo.
Really ill song concept with an eerie beat to promote that Creep Show feel. It’s well executed even though you kind wish a better MC was rapping and Termanology doesn’t quite have the presence to nail it but much props for giving it a shot. It’s a solid song overall, and while he doesn’t have that star quality, he makes up for it with musicality and inventiveness. Good song.
Keyza Soulsay, Mattic, Ike Turnah, and Ill-use-Play 4 Me Play 4 me
This joint is from some cats I never heard of forwarded to me by my boy Chuck Waters. It’s got that early 90’s indie feel to it with the simple piano and the free-flowing verses. While none of these guys blow you away lyrically or presence wise, this song is certainly greater than the sum of its parts and none of them ruin it. Think Trent Dilfer on the mic, managing the game and not losing it for you. Cool Song
Beans Feat. Young Chris & Free-Ready for War
The Roc’s thrilling three is back for another one. I’m telling you, these guys are too fresh to be releasing albums in the wilderness. Freeway is as relentless as he’s ever been and Chris is rapping with a chip on his shoulder, seemingly resigned to life without Hov, and he’s not happy about it. Sigel has never been more menacing but he’s in control of his flow and pace. We need a State Property album.
The Internationalz-That Good Shhhh
Another unheralded joint. This is a mellow, cool song with a really dope bassline. It mainly concerns itself with presenting another side of the music away from the snappers and the trappers without disparaging and I think it works. The song is well made, and it sounds like they are enjoying themselves. It’s always good to hear other music and see people represent without hating. I give it a thumbs up.
DJ Quik & Kurupt- F**k Ya’ll
The veteran renaissance isn’t only going on in the East Coast. Kurupt and DJ Quik have a new joint out and it’s pretty good. Kurupt is perhaps not as aggressive as he was in those Death Row days, but he is certainly seriously credible on that microphone. The real surprise is how good Quik sounds lyrically. The song is well produced and rich musically but you would expect that from a master like Quik. Very smooth for a song with a title like that but dope.
Young Buck-Let the Beat Rock
G-Unit banishment and self imposed exile had Youngbuck off the map. Now begins his long climb back to the spotlight. Buck flows on this slow tempo bare track, allowing himself room to get some things off his chest and just get busy. Very little rust. Hopefully he can get back to making music for the masses very soon.
Styles P Feat Nore & Uncle Murda- Pablo Doe
The hardest out drops something from the gutter with a little help from his friends. The Green Lantern-produced beat has that frown your face nod your head early Neptunes feel with a touch of grimy. Nore hasn’t sounded this good in years. This song is nothing next but its good ol’ fashioned hardcore Hip-Hop. Uncle Murda *sigh* is arguably is the star of this and gets busy at the buzzer. FTW.
That’s it for today folks, enjoy the rest of your day and we’ll be back with you soon to bring you more of that heat from the boulevard to the bourgeoisie. Peace
