]Tom Hanks Set To Produce Neil Gaiman's American Gods TV Series For HBO

The acclaimed novel from Sandman writer Neil Gaiman is set to be devolved for teh small screen, and Hanks' production company will be producing it. Click for the details..

    From THR..

The series-in-development, revolving around the question “are you a god if no one believes in you?” is executive produced by Goetzman and Hanks, with Bob Richardson, and Gaiman on board as executive producer and writer.

Each of the six seasons will be of 10-12, hour-long episodes with a budget of around $35-40 million per season, targeted to debut on the cable powerhouse in 2013 at the earliest.
“There are some crazy things in there. We’ll probably be doing more effects in there than it’s been done on a television series."

Interesting. I've read the novel and it's really good, and I think it's a good thing they'll do it as a tv-series since there's a lot of story in there. I don't know about the length of the show though, I can't imagine it being six seasons without being unnecessarily stretched out.

How about not, lol. As already explained by both Broddie and me before, the Superman lawsuit doesn't affect the movie rights, as long as the movie rights don't revert. WB is required to release a Superman movie before 2013 if they want to keep the rights, which is exactly what's going to happen since Snyder's flick is set for Winter 2012.

Not at all. As stated before the heirs are only entitled to the stuff about Superman established in Action Comics #1. Nothing more. But even more importantly, movie rights are not comic rights. The movie rights are established in a contract, and nothing can be changed about that as long as the contract remains in place (or basically, as long as WB keeps churning out a movie every couple of years). The current movie contract under WB includes the entirety of the Superman property, and while the heirs may have to be paid a sum of the money for using the aspects now legally owned by them, they cannot touch the movies since the legal contract was made before they were granted certain rights to the Superman property.
