BOX OFFICE: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Surpasses $1 Billion Worldwide

Christopher Nolan's epic conclusion to his Dark Knight Trilogy has officially passed $1 billion worldwide, becoming only the 13th film in history to do so and grossing slightly more than 2008's The Dark Knight. Hit the jump for more details.

    Paul Romano - 9/2/2012

After about a month and a half in theaters, Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight Rises has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Christopher Nolan-directed superhero epic has now grossed $431.2 million domestically and approximately $574 million internationally, for a total $1.005 billion through Sunday. This is slightly more than what The Dark Knight's $1.0003B worldwide gross back in 2008. The third and final installment in Nolan's Batman trilogy is officially the 13th film in history to surpass $1B, and only the third comic book movie to do so.

The biggest difference between The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight is that the former has been more successful overseas, but not quite as successful at the domestic box office as the latter. The Dark Knight made $533M in North America and $469.7M internationally during its theatrical run. Many believe that TDKR didn't make quite as much money in the United States due to the tragic Aurora theater shootings on July 20th.

The only other film to gross $1B worldwide this year is Marvel's The Avengers, which today has surpassed $1.5B, becoming the third highest grossing film of all time.

Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall director Jeff Wadlow has hinted that Jim Carrey has officially joined the cast.

The Dumb and Dumber actor has been linked to playing the role of Colonel Stars in the comic book movie sequel, after he revealed he was a fan of Matthew Vaughn's first film.
Wadlow tweeted that they have now cast the Colonel, saying: "6 days till we start shooting... and we officially have our Colonel. Alrighty f'n then! @ChloeGMoretz @MintzPlasse @donald_faison #kickass2."

Christopher Mintz-Plasse replied, asking who they had signed to play the part, to which the original comic book writer Mark Millar hinted further at Carrey's appointment.

"Clue - he lives with 200 raccoons and parrots, owns the mask of Loki and named by spielberg as a genius," he wrote.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicolas Cage will reprise their original roles for the sequel.

Lyndsy Fonseca, Yancy Butler, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, Lindy Booth and Andy Nyman have also joined the cast.

Kick-Ass 2 will be released in the US on June 28, 2013 and the UK on July 19, 2013.

i hope Cage is a typo.

WONDER WOMAN Series Being Developed By The CW; Will Focus On Diana's Origins

After NBC passed on David Kelly's Wonder Woman pilot last year, The CW is reportedly planning their own take on the DC Comics character. The story is apparently an origins-based tale, a la Smallville. More details after the jump.

    Paul Romano - 9/6/2012

Only a year ago, David E. Kelly unsuccessfully attempted to bring Wonder Woman back to the big screen with his pilot starring Adrianne Palicki. After NBC passed on the pilot, many have wondered when or if the Amazonian Princess would return to the small screen. Now, with Warner Bros. Pictures slowly working on a big screen feature, Vulture has learned that The CW (who have previously developed Smallville and will launch Arrow next month) are working with Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics for a television series based on Diana of Temyscira, and would focus on Diana's origin story.

Under the working title Amazon, Allan Heinberg (Young Avengers, Grey's Anatomy) is writing this new take on the DC Comics character, who is famously a part of DC's "Trinity" alongside Batman and Superman. Vulture says that the series "will focus on Wonder Woman as a young, budding superhero, rather than a fully formed defender of liberty." Sounds a lot like Smallville to me. The site also says that only a script is being developed right now, and CW have not greenlit a pilot.

As for the planned Wonder Woman movie, the last update we received was back in June, when WB hired writer Michael Goldenberg (Green Lantern, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix) to pen the script. The movie will likely follow the studio's planned Justice League movie, which may be released in 2015. If Amazon is picked up and a success on The CW, then increased interest in a Wonder Woman film is more or less a given. Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments below.

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Brothers Kicking Around The Idea Of Using LOBO In JUSTICE LEAGUE

Recently the only Justice League movie news we have been getting is who may or may not be directing the movie, but it seems that Warner Brothers might be looking to amp up the story by including Lobo.
    WaylonJones - 9/6/2012

Warner Brothers is going to be looking to get the most bang for their buck when they finally get around to producing a Justice League movie. A while back I reported to you that DC will be working towards a shared universe with their next film, Man Of Steel. The Justice League film is said to bring DC Comics all-stars such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern together on the big screen. However, there might be one name added to the list. According to my source Warner Brothers is tossing around the idea of including Lobo in the film, that Will Beall is currently writing. It has not been disclosed whether or not Lobo would help or fight the League, but having them in there is sure to please some fans. This would not be a total shocker since they are currently developing a Lobo film with Brad Peyton handling writing and directing duties along with having Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson interested in playing the title character.

Keep in mind this is only in the brainstorming stage at the moment so it is not a done deal, and there is a possibility they may not decide to do it at all. There is currently no timetable on the Lobo project, but WB is wanting to get Justice League off the ground for a 2015 release date so it very well could be before then. For the latest on Lobo and Justice League make sure you check back here at CBM.
