You know the drill.
You know the drill.
The Fighter. Its been awhile since a recent performance impressed me that much. Christian Bale better win an Oscar for that shit.
One of my favorite flicks of the year. What pushes this one above other boxing flicks is the great acting. Bale will win the Oscar this year, no question, but I would also like to see Melissa Leo win for her performance. She stole her scenes and just made you hate her lol.
Never Let Me Go. I went into it knowing nothing about it except that it starred Carey Mulligan (the girl from An Education) and Andrew Garfield (the new Spider-Man) and that's it. It reminded me how good it feels to just dive into a movie knowing absolutely nothing, and just let everything unfold naturally without a "I saw the trailer so I know what we're moving towards" vibe.
Anyway, in 40 years Carey Mulligan will be queen of the British dames, much like Helen Mirren is now. She just got it, the talent, the screen presence but most importantly, she got class. Andrew Garfield shows here why he's a good fit for Spider-Man (or more correctly, Peter Parker) because he plays an introvert push-over of a guy who whimpers himself through the movie, outside of the occasional rage fit. Keira Knightley also stars in the movie but she plays an annoyingly shallow character, and she does it in such an annoyingly shallow way that I came to absolutely despise this terrible written, terrible acted character.
For the rest it's just an okay movie, perfect British decency with some good cinematography and subtle music. Most people will end up asking themselves the obvious question, and probably then complain about it, because they can't understand that this is not the kind of movie they hope to see just because they can't handle slow fatalistic drama. Why they would watch a slow fatalistic drama if they only desire it to become something else is a mystery in itself, although the answer most likely lies in the universal fact that people are stupid.
Threat Level Midnight
Best action flick I've seen in years. That shootout on the ice rink was nuts. Scorn will become a memorable hero for generations to come. Cherokee Jack came with the GOAT quotables, I think Yoda got a run for his money. Gold Face is the ultimate villain.
smh @ me constantly forgetting to catch up on The Office.
Anyway, The King's Speech. It was quite good. In my post above about Never Let Me Go I speak of perfect British decency and well, this is perfect British quality! It makes me wonder if the Weinsteins can pull off another Shakespeare In Love at the Oscars next week (I don't doubt they've thrown enough money into it to make it happen, lol). Anyway, Firth got that award in the pocket already because he absolutely killed it.
I am Number 4 was a sick action movie. i wanna read the books now
THE BIRD OF THE HERMES IS MY NAME...EATING MY WINGS TO MAKE ME TAME
Sabrina. A young Audrey Hepburn and a seasoned Humphrey Bogart in a movie by Billy Wilder so you can't really go wrong. Wilder remains one of the best writers in history, the man just got a spectacular knack for witty dialog.
-Winter's Bone. It was pretty good. Extremely depressing though. I enjoyed the performances by the lead and her uncle. I wish they would have showed the girl's father too, like.Spoiler for {option}:
-Faster. I was expecting it to be another fail by the Rock, but it was surprisingly entertaining.
