To be frank, the year has been pretty shit so far. Other than El-Ps two albums, Hip Hop has been on cruise control. I'm not as hyped about that new Nas as everyone else, at this rate Slaughterhouse will get pushed back another 84 times and Brother Ali will get pushed back another 43, hopefully Aesop Rock can deliver.

On the Rock side, fall looks like some good shit will finally drop with upcoming releases from Gaslight, Muse, Killers, and maybe even Arctic Monkeys. Shit can't come soon enough.

This fucking year has really sucked so far. It's seen some interesting releases but honestly, barely anything of it has stuck. I only got a Top 3 of HipHop albums (C4C, R.A.P. Music and Blue Chips) and don't even ask me about non-HipHop releases. Smashing Pumpkins and Slash is all I got that's worth mentioning, and the Slash record really isn't worth mentioning.

My Top 3 has now expanded to a Top 5. The additions are the Death Grips' album (those guys have improved ridiculously) and Billy Woods' latest History Will Absolve Me. Don't know who Billy Woods is? He's a DC emcee who's an old friend of Vordul Mega. When Mega became huge in underground circles because of Cannibal Ox, Woods called in a favor and loaded his debut album Camouflage with features by Mega to the point it's pretty much an OB4CL type collaboration.

Anyway, History Will Absolve Me is his third album and it's basically his The Cold Vein. The guy always had talent but he stepped up like crazy with his off-the-wall abstract lyricism and off-beat flows. Underneath all the shit are a lot of themes running which only adds to its greatness. Most importantly though the production is crazy and a must-listen for any fans of 'Abstract HipHop'.

Gave it a spin when it dropped and wasn't really feeling it. Might DL and give it another shot.

Fuck! I just discovered The Stranglers dropped a new album this year. It's been six years since their last so it was about time too.

That new Public Enemy album is pretty decent btw. It's not as consistently good as How You Sell Soul... etc. but there's enough good shit on there to go into the catalog.
