How many people here actually looking forward to this? I ask because it seems a lot of people in other forums are just talking about it out of obligation (it's a new Ridley Alien universe pic & your movie fan pass will be revoked if you don't fake enthusiasm for it) and not real genuine interest.

I'm curious to see what the general public thinks of this. I personally can't wait for it. It's my most anticipated movie of the summer; fuck a superhero movie. But I also feel it will flop cause there is no room for intelligent sci-fi in this day and age where generic looking action fantasy movies based on snow white seem to be what the kids consider "badass".

As a fan of the first two Alien movies and big-budget sci-fi in general, this is one of my most anticipated of next year. Ridley seems inspired about this unlike the last few phoned in projects he did. Could be a true classic if done right. Of course, this could just be a generic action sci-fier thats a money grab for Ridley, but I hope not.

I'm in. If old style action movies can make a comeback then why not this shit? I hope it happens - that it does come back and it's not just going through the motions like Rorschach said.

I don't give a rat's ass about this movie and it'll take a lot to change my mind. Ridley Scott has lost all his goodwill to me and I'm not checking for any of his movies unless I hear positive word from people whose opinion are actually worth to be trusted.

The reason I anticipate this one is that he's coming back to the only genre that actually pushed him to be a really imaginative filmmaker. His sci-fi joints are 2 of the greatest movies ever made as far as I'm concerned so that's why I'll check for his return to the genre. Maybe it will respark something in him. Otherwise I've avoided everything he's done within the past decade with the lame ass Gangster movie being the exception.

To me he was always a mixed bag and overrated. I'd go as far as saying that though he's the better filmmaker his brother's resume has more entries that I have found genuinely entertaining compared to Ridley. He has always had some technically competent joints that just bore the shit out of me like Legend, Thelma & Louise & White Squall. Then he has 2 good movies outside of the sci-fi genre in Gladiator and Black Hawk Down. No real middleground though and a lot of duds. We'll see where this one ends up falling in the long run but it's certainly a lot more intriguing than the marvel superhero hoedown or another episode of Law & Order: Gotham by Chris Nolan.

MTV News' Josh Horowitz interview with Tom Rothman

    http://www.mtv.com/videos/movies/715...s-unfair.jhtml

About the Prometheus Trailer Leaking Online
"I heard some of it leaked, which wasn't so good. That's not fair. It's heartbreakingly unfair, because ... the quality of the visuals is as spectacularly beautiful, shot in 3-D compositionally the way only a master could do it. For some early, early, early, early half-baked, half-assed test to leak, it's so unfair."

"I will promise you this: When that material is ready and it comes out, you should go see it in 3-D on a screen. It will deliver."

Is Prometheus a Prequel to Alien?
"I suppose if you want to definitionally be that literal, but it does it a great disservice. I will tell you, here's the way to think about it. If you looked at the whole movie, 95 percent of it is entirely unto itself," Rothman said. "Ridley said it right: If you're a fan and you look closely, you'll spot strands of DNA."

"I'll tell you the great thing: It's way bigger than that. The ideas are way bigger, way more original and — it's a scary word — way more profound."

From early drafts the only connection seems to be the race they encounter in this movie may have bioengineered the Xenomorphs as a biological weapon to impregnate other species and weaponise them as hosts for the xenomorphs. So with any luck we'll see Noomi Rapace probed and Michael Fassbender get a rectal exam to deem the suitability of humans as hosts for alien bio-weapons of mass self destruction. Apparently it's meant to be some artistic commentary on the way we as humans today torture, imprison and experiment to create newer and nastier ways of killing each other by making us examine how we'd feel if an outside alien force did to us what Nazis did in prison camps or what went down at Abu Ghraib in terms of dehumanising practices. So... yeah, not exactly waiting with baited breath on a 2 hour semi prequel to Aliens where most of the cast will be alien guinea pigs. Shame and most of ... Dragon Tattoo is more than enough disgusting pseudo sexual stuff from them for me.

Also, how fucking pretentious does that Horowitz guy sound? Spacemen get caught, probed, tortured, raped, released/escape and then have to live with the knowledge of what happened... doesn't sound that profound to me, sounds like virtually every prison camp movie ever. Hell, sounds like Shawshank Redemption without the feel good happy ending.
