Anybody else read this ****?

Every once in a while someone asks if anyone has read something and it gets drowned in Bendis or GL comments. This isn't just for independent stuff. This is where you ask if anyone is reading shit you just don't see any comments on.

A couple of questions. Did anyone besides me and Flippa Dippa read Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine? Jason Aaron and Adam Kubert teamed up for a crazy time travel story. It had one of my least favorite villains ever and I wasn't mad at all (I hate hate hate Arcade the most).

The reason I thought of this is I'm at work and read the second TPB from The Umbrella Academy and never really saw much about it on here. It's written by the kid from My Chemical Romance so I had second thoughts about trying it but I really enjoy this shit. It's kind of a dark/light-hearted silver age book. If that makes any sense. Anybody else read this shit?

Same here man. lol. I'm glad I'm not crazy though. I thought this was great stuff.

I read Northlanders but have some catching up to do. The first arc destroyed what I thought the series would be. I guess whenever I thought about vikings I thought it would be some sort of story like Warren Ellis does on Wolfskin. I was very wrong. I think Brian Wood is severely underrated.

I am going to have to go to the collections thread and read through Xombi though because I haven't read one issue ever. I actually read some of the stuff with Wally Wood art from back in the day on Dynamo but haven't tried T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents yet. What's been going on in Batgirl?

Oh, and speaking of Brian Wood, has anyone read Demo? Lots of single issue stories about "real world" people with superpowers. And honestly some of that shit is powerful IMO.

Going up to it I knew what to expect since they had said the goal was to make tales based on actual viking lore and not something more fantastical. So the grounded approach didn't really throw me off. The anthology approach did at first but since I like anthology books (which is why I've also read DEMO which you mentioned) this wasn't a problem.

It's only 3 issues deep in this volume and you really don't have to be familiar with the previous volume to get any of it so I'd say just read these last 3 issues.

It's different from that stuff in tone but it's been a solid read. Only 7 issues into it so far so it's a good catch up point right now.

What's been going on in Batgirl?

It's just been a really fun book. A nice throwback to when comic books didn't always feature ultra serious & grim heroes. Miller's writing on this is so solid that he's made a character that I never liked and was glad to see die a character that I now can't go one month without ever reading about. It's the most 'lax of any of the batbooks and the greatest surprise in the whole lineup.

Wonder Woman; anybody else reading this shit? at first the Odyssey arc had me like "WTF" but as of issue #610 Phil Hester completely salvaged everything JMS had no real direction with. Yes I said it Hester >>> JMS. Remember that JMS only plotted and wrote the first few issues after that he had a couple of meetings with Hester and Roberson (Superman) and then bounced over to Earth One to make more money.

He basically left them with mad room to improvise and Hester and Roberson have made their respective continuations to JMS' mess extremely readable cause of the open spaces they have to fill creatively. Kudos to them both. I especially like that Steve Trevor will seemingly go back to his rightful place as Diana's 'Lois Lane' since he was younger again. Honestly that was the only romance that made any sense and I like the tweaks being made to the new costume, glad they dumped that stupid looking jacket.

I've read the first 4 trades of Northlanders. I enjoyed the stories so far but not sure how I feel about the seeming lack of an over-all story line.

So who of you guys have been reading the Stan Lee plotted Boom! books? I follow Soldier Zero and The Traveler and both books are enjoyable reads. The first was started by Paul Cornell and has since been taken over by Abnett & Lanning and is basically "What if the Venom symbiont was a Cyber warsuit?" with some outer space intrigue. The Traveler is written by Mark Waid and is pretty damn good. It's hard to describe but it just has that Mark Waid freshness and it has an interesting main character dynamic. I dropped Starborn after a couple of issues because it was too heavy on exposition but I'm thinking of picking it back up of the goodwill Chris Roberson has built up with his Superman.

The Traveler & Soldier Zero are basically the better of the.........3 lol especially The Traveler i love that series
