Just when I thought I could not find any more reasons to hate metal music, I go through RateYourMusic's year list and see genres listed as "Funeral Doom Metal" and "Atmospheric Sludge Metal". What the hell does that even mean? Does it mean "Funeral Doom" is one subgenre of metal or is "Funeral" a subgenre of the subgenre "Doom Metal"? And how is it different from "Sludge Metal"? Do I even want to know? Fuck Metal!
lol, now that I think about it Metal fans are arguably the most pretentious and elitist music fans out there. That subgenre of a subgenre shit is ridiculous enough in itself, but those guys really rather get caught dead than listening to 'established' music.
A kid at school fit your description of pretentious. He only listened to one kind of metal that you really needed the fucking liner notes for or you didn't know what they were saying. And supposedly they sang about "forgetting all the bullshit, "fuck you, I'm going to have a good time." I get this explained to me and I'm trying to tell him music has done this forever but whatever. He also had a humidor in his dorm room full of cigars that nobody liked but would buy them from him, taking his word for it that they were good. If he wasn't the size of a leprechaun I probably would have done something bad to him at one point.
He was my buddy's archenemy too. The shit was hilarious. My friend would hang out with a girl for a while then this Mark kid would start hanging around her. My friend would date a different girl, then Mark would date her. And they hated each other. Then one day my friend is talking about how he loves going to jazz night at his bar but Mark keeps on taking these huge, stinky cigars down there and making the bar smell like shit. I ask Mark about jazz night one week for the hell of it and he says "I hate jazz, but for some reason I looove smoking cigars to it. " It's things like that where I think there has to be a higher power. And that higher power is a butthole.
lmao! For some reason this reminds me of something I thought of the other day to say when people ask what I'm doing with my life. I'll respond that I am a clown performing for the smallest audience in the world and will then wait for them to realize that I am not an actual clown but that I am speaking in a metaphor, which they won't get so they'll just become confused and/or weirded out. And when they do I'll say that they're clearly not a part of my audience and confuse them more. They might ask further but I won't say anything else, I'll just stare at them with a creepily innocent smile like Anthony Perkins and feel good about myself.
