I preferred the Spider-Man cartoon over the X-Men cartoon, but TAS is better than both either way. I will give X-Men props for its opening though, that shit does a great job making all the X-Men look like a bunch of kick-ass bad-asses.

TAS = Batman: The Animated Series.

That X-Men cartoon got me into reading the older than the 90's X-Men stories I'd give it that but it's aged terribly. The animation is really poor and the voice acting is super suspect and out of place at times. Comparing it to Batman: TAS is like trying to compare a retard to an intellectual.

the only memorable xmen episode to me was the nightcrawler one.
now batman, that was like classic after classic. i remember my mind being blown after Robin's Reckoning, "Big bad Harv", the sewer king episode, and seeing Alfred turned into a tree.

Spider-Man had terrible animation and even worse CGI but I was a kid so I didn't care back then and now I have nostalgia to blur it, lol. Even though Batman is the ultimate superhero cartoon I always loved Spider-Man for its scale with tons of multiple episode storylines. They even put Secret Wars in there, even if they made it Spidey-centric that shit was just crazy in scope.

Yeah I was really disappointed in Spider-Man's look but watched it anyways.
TAS the GOAT though. Seriously. If I go with one episode right now it's Heart of Ice - the Mister Freeze episode. My favorite moment for some reason is the one where the rogues are all telling stories of how they almost got Batman and Croc pipes up telling his and he says something like "I got him cornered in a cave... And I threw a rock at him!" The rogues all stare at him at contempt and he meekly defends himself, shrugging and saying "It was a big rock."

lmao I almost got him was a classic. never figured out how batman got away dressed up as croc though. in the light he was croc, and in the dark he was batman?

At the time it was the best animated version of Spider-Man people had. Plus as someone else said we were kids so you were just hyped to see Spidey. One thing I give it props on was that they did a lot of fan service with that show. They actually made slight improvements to Venom's origin.

Robin's Reckoning had me waiting for a Dick Grayson centered cartoon. Bruce Timm really should have made a Nightwing: TAS.
But Batman TAS above anything else in the 90s, and Gargoyles is 2nd place. Spidey TAS had great storylines, it just had bad animation. I loved David Warner's voice in Spiderman TAS. But he ISvthe voice Ra al Ghul, similar to how Kevin Conroy is to Batman and Mark Hammill is to Joker.

I agree with you completely on the Spidey toon. Much more accomplished in terms of narrative than the X-Men one but the shoddy animation does let it down cause it hasn't aged very sharply. Next to the excellent early 80's Spider-Man cartoon it's my second favorite Spidey series though.
Funny you bring up voice actors that worked on multiple series. I always found it funny how lazy Hammill was with his Hobgoblin voice. It was just his Joker voice and if you closed your eyes and just heard it you wouldn't know which cartoon you were watching lol.

That initially drawed me in Spidey TAS cause I loved the Joker voice. Even had a good impression for a little while (with the laugh n all).
But Batman TAS/ TNBA should have led the Bruce Timm-verse to a Nightwing TAS, but we ended up with Batman Beyond.

for me this isnt even close.
BTAS imo is the greatest cartoon ever.
one thing I give the X-Men credit on & remeber to this day was the premiere when Mimic 'died'. At time I didnt comic/cartoon characters could bite the bullet in a Saturday morning cartoon.
