View Full Version : Behind The Mic

A thread for all aspiring rappers to drop their work to have it judged for all who wish to hear it. I'd post some of my work but whenever I sent Books something he won't stop laughing, so I'll have to pass for now and make room for braver souls, lol.

Where do writtens go?

Dr Doom
03-14-2011, 06:52 AM
You can make a new thread for that.

Dr Doom
03-15-2011, 04:54 PM
Fuck it, to start this thread off I'll sacrifice myself. I was sorta going for an MF DOOM thing but I probably ended up just sounding mad boring. In fact, people might wanna put this song next to an MF DOOM song so they can understand why he isn't as boring/uninteresting on the mic as people like to claim. Anyhows, the song and lyrics.

http://hulkshare.com/q8w6fx97l3i8

Focus on this, Controverse the rap vocalist
James Williamson on the horns with the assist*
Yeah, check out that Kill City sample
Cause great music don't grow on trees like apples
So excuse me purist but I had to use it
And then pollute it with that friggin' Hip Hop music
Yo, hit you with the tongue twister
Doctor checked out the vocal cords, found nothing but blisters
The beat was hot so I kissed her
Then afterwards asked if maybe she had a sister
Cause on the mic I spread nothing but love
Underneath these lights that shine like stars from above
The audience ask: "Can the boy still grow?"
Already at the peak of my skills, so the answer's "No!"
But don't you worry, I will stay ferocious
And never cease to drop some more of that dope shit
[Outro]

*random note: it isn't actually James Williamson on the horns because Williamson was the guitarist, and I don't know how I managed to fuck that one up since he's never been anything but a guitarist, nor do I know why I only realized it after recording the song. Not that any you probably care in the first place but still.

That actually wasn't a bad impression at all once the accent is gotten over
Would've liked more wit but it's not bad

Just got back into rhyming as track season just came to a close, thus these are light on the songwriting aspect and heavier on the wit. Tryna drop an EP soon with original beats from Tae Beast, 14KT, and all. Both got spin on a radio show last night, people were feeling 'em and everybody on Twitter said these were dope.

Dr Doom

Yo, I used to respect you, son, loved you like a brother, nah'mean? But Aubrey? Mahfucking Aubrey? Nah, I can't respect that shit, dawg. Word is bond.

I remember I once told you that you had a tendency of rapping (too) fast for the sake of rapping fast, losing track of the flow. I still heard a bit of that on the '93 Til Infinity freestyle, but you've improved on that. I can honestly say that if you dropped some legit shit like an EP, I'd check it out not just because I 'know' you but out of genuine interest. And you might wanna hit up OD and see if we can do some Planet Ill cross promotion, because I know dude's been trying to set something like that up.

And last but not least, Aubrey, son? Fo'real?

That Fear beat... shit is insane. The rises, falls, etc. Drake gets flames, Khalil laced that man. LMAO :apd: But yeah, I really just slowed down and "practiced" all track season... does wonders what focus can do.
And I'll consider that, been tryna get some artwork done so I could submit the first 2 cuts to some blogs so yeah

Dr Doom

There are no excuses for that shit, b.

So the EP I was tryna do with Tae Beast is on hold til I save a tad more money, but there'll be some original material coming real soon. Hooray BasedGod. Some Headnodic. Some Khrysis. Some Tae Beast hopefully before I leave. Might post my bars here; they liked my shit at JBTV
What would be the best ave for promotion?
and Doom, you should learn to sample and make beats yo. I got drum and sample kits and filters *****.

Dr Doom
08-22-2011, 04:06 PM
I wish I was better at sampling because I do have a great ear for samples. At the least I need some kind of tool to isolate the sample from the drums, etc.

Look on Youtube. Tons of tutorials.... what you make beats with?

Dr Doom

I'm on the first 2 verses. All entendres and flows. I need beats tho; any you'd like to recommend me rock over? Got mad free time and my recording process has gotten mad faster (knocked out 3 tracks, mixing and mastering included after recording, in like 3 hours with other people just coming in and spitting) so now's the time.

Dr Doom

Took me a while to get around to checking that shit but let's start of at the beginning. I don't know whether you're KD, AL or Quawn, but whoever you are, change your name because all those three names suck. The only Google-able name of the three is Quawn and if you look at the pictures that come up in Google (turn off Safesearch) you know why the fuck you don't want to be Quawn. Moving on from those details, your verses are nice. You got potential young'en, but your future will go nowhere if you're either Quawn or fucking with him (n/h).

NJ76
01-08-2012, 04:24 PM
lmao its in order me, AL then Q and nah I dont have a working name yet so i just use initials

Dr Doom
01-08-2012, 04:34 PM
Well shit, make up a name then. I think Lil' Lisp may still be available.

NJ76

Dr Doom

LOL, I was laughing out loud while listening to this! Whether that's a good or bad thing, I'll let you decide. Soon as you said 'Books' I was dying. Using a faster flow was good, made it more interesting to listen to and your accent makes everything so much funnier :D

So now that I've gotten Books' official seal of approval, here's another of my legendary recordings. As always, the lyrics are included at the bottom.

DoomCraft
Can't Touch The Gods
This shit dedicated to my boy Books
Uhh!

Ayo, fuck ya'll, you can't the touch the Gods
You just little kids in your room, jerking off
Touching yourself, because you can't touch the track
While I riggity-rock the house like Diggity-Das EFX
Ah what the heck, I ain't tryna bring old school hiphop back
But I still rip the track and bring the facts, just like that
My shit so bold, your shit so old
Guess that's what you get for selling your soul, not that I would know
Yeah man, you cats all livin' a lie, walking the extra mile
And still ain't passin' me by, not in a million years of time
Of course, by that time you will have already died
while I, continue to live on as a legend
But fuck it, back to the present 'cause it's time for another lesson
For all you dumb kids who still don't know with who they messin'
It's DoomCraft, crafting your doom, et cetera
In the shadow of Gods is where I loom and getting better, ja?

bout to start this debut EP and mixtape
I don't know what direction to take as far as production and I want a cohesive sound. You got any beats/producers you recommend?

Dr Doom

I know this cat named DoomCraft. I heard his shit has been getting really dope lately.

Dr Doom

Beggars can't be choosers, b. But I'll see what's going down in the kitchen.

Dr Doom
05-19-2012, 12:36 PM
Remember when I said I'd see what's going down in the kitchen... like four hours ago? Well, here's the result. Looks like the ball's in your court. Or should I say, my balls, in your mouth! Because you'll be sucking the Blu out of them after hearing this gem, n/h.

Have something to that beat, but I'm gonna sit on it.

Ayo, how you feel about French producer Dela?

Dr Doom
08-10-2012, 09:34 PM
It's about time you started spitting over my shit, I've got an entire catalog of Northern Soul songs waiting to be copy/pasted into HipHop beats, lol.

And Dela is a great producer, one of the few producers that keeps the spirit of Nujabes (R.I.P.) alive.

NJ76
08-10-2012, 10:02 PM
Good. Most of the EP is over his shit. One Thomas Prime beat and one or two Elmatic instros.

Dr Doom
08-12-2012, 08:09 AM
That isn't good at all, original production >>>>> old beats, all day, every day.

NJ76
08-14-2012, 12:48 AM
That isn't good at all, original production >>>>> old beats, all day, every day.

Gotta raise my profile somehow.
That and this summer hasn't been financially the best for me. My tastes even for how I wanted this to completely sound didn't lock in until late July... and well when money's not involved, you can afford to be moody.
I figure most haven't heard what's on here and some of the shit hasn't been rapped over anyway - that and you gotta outdo those who've had the beats before you.
But I'm currently debating what to do with EP 2, well, now that I have good money.

Dr Doom
08-14-2012, 06:14 AM
The key to becoming original begins at being original, young padawan. But let's hear what you've churned up first.

NJ76
08-23-2012, 07:47 AM
Original production is expensive - you gotta rely on a unique rhyme style and some type of cohesive sound early on til you link w/ the right folks. Lupe beatjacked most of his early career, but he wasn't unoriginal at all I think.
at least til I get paid lmao
and even then I don't know where to look for the type of shit I wanna do for the next EP

Dr Doom
08-31-2012, 12:02 PM
Original production is cheap as fuck if you just get the system. Take my beats for instance. Sure, they're incredibly dope and all (lol) but they're also built entirely on uncleared samples, so there's no way in hell I could sell them. But that wouldn't matter if I gave them to a guy to put on a Free EP. Because when you release a Free EP no money is made which means no case can be made. But what it does do is get your name out there. Following the rules of the system is what people with no vision do. Get some vision and think outside of the box.

Just look at The Grey Album. You think Danger Mouse didn't know they were going to shut down his shit the second word got out he sampled an entire album by The Beatles to remix Jigga's the Black Album? Of course he knew, but he also knew that getting it out there would be enough to get his name out. He didn't need to sell the shit, he needed people to hear the shit. That's the golden rule. No matter what you do, no matter how many rules you break or shit you pull, it'll all pay off on the account that what you do is dope. Because the right people will notice and that will do more for you than sticking to the given path everybody follows.

NJ76
08-31-2012, 09:20 PM
Cats are charging, for free use and/or uncleared samples or neither. Esp. that quality quality shit. Are you suggesting I just jack *****s' shit? The vision is already laid out, I just need to track down some cats to fuck with it... It's kinda case by case now. Depends. Not enough beats unrapped over w/ what I want outside of some Knxwedge/Clams shit and a few "Kendrick Lamar/Ab-Soul/SBQ type beats" on Youtube.
Also, are you familiar with studio equipment? Bout to start up a starting budget of about a grand for that shit.

Dr Doom
08-31-2012, 10:38 PM
No, I'm not suggesting you jack shit. I'm suggesting you find a producer who gives zero fucks about a paycheck and 100% about getting his name out.

I still make beats in Fruity Loops, b. Do I look like I know anything about professional music making? lol

NJ76
09-01-2012, 05:09 AM
lmao son I'd pay you if you came with an EP full of rappable heat
let me know what themes you're interested in and if you need sample or drum kits

Dr Doom
09-01-2012, 07:52 AM
I'm interested in whatever crosses my mind at the moment. But if you listen to some of my latest beats, you'll figure soon enough that at the moment I'm knee deep in shamelessly sampling Northern Soul.

I also don't need sample or drum kits. What I need is talent, something I'm sorely lacking at the moment, lol.
