Skyzoo X Pete Rock: It’s All Good

Skyzoo makes music for cats who miss the feel of the Golden Age of Hip-Hop without hearing their favorites washed on the mic. For his newest opus he enlists of that era’s finest architects, Pete Rock. Together the duo are releasing Retropolitan in September and the first salvo from the record is “It’s All Good.”

As soon as the beat drops you are transported to that era, and Pete Rock’s timeless production takes you there. It turns out, the beat is actually from the archives of the Illmatic era from Pete’s ’94 stash. Merging modern sensibilities with classic energy is what Skyzoo’s entire career has been about and Retropolitan takes this to it’s logical progression.

The single art extends this aesthetic, with a Yusuf Hawkins mural in the background of gentrified Brooklyn’s rent-a-bike streets. A relic of a bygone era informing its “glistening” future. Ahem.

Shit is dope. New York Hip-Hop can still keep the spirit of its heyday without trotting out the same washed rappers trying to mesh with trap waves and out of lane rhythms. Skyzoo is here to give you exhibit A. It’s All Good. The first hit is free, cop that dope Retropolitan in September.
