Murs – So Close So Far

So Close So Far is the story of a relationship on the rocks. Familiarity breeds contempt. Two people under one roof. Life happens. Bills. Work.  the demands of living pull you  in separate directions.

We get caught up in our own world and our own struggle and the banes of our existence, often to the extent that we no longer pay attention to the issues that affect our partners. We don’t use them for strength, we no longer support their fight.  No malice. just a bit of misery.

When relationships erode, we have two effective choices. We can stand and fight, or we can flee and regroup. So Close So Far is the narrative of standing, fighting, and healing, told beautifully by Murs. Adulting. Loving. With a mature delivery that doesn’t defer to the traditional “ride or die” Hip-Hop trope.

The music is sparse, with a spare, rhythmic, staccato piano that expands to a subtle, yet effective horn. The story is told clearly and effortlessly by one of the best in the business.

So Close So Far is another feather in the cap for an emcee who has tackled so many issues that people claim Hip-Hop never addresses. Fighting for love instead of crying over its loss. With no masculine or feminine assessment of blame or toxicity. What a concept. Murray for the win.
