Cool is an aesthetic loss to the modern world as nerded up hipsters dampen the landscape with anticool personas and anyone with gravitational pull becomes targets of the bully police as it were. In a world where Alexander McQueen has more recognition than Steve McQueen, it’s nice to see some cool shit every once in a while (for those of us who still recognize cool anyway). Without any fanfare or press conferences or retort raps, Freestyle Fellowship alumnus and bad motherfucker Aceyalone shot a video in Cuba for the very dope, very jazzy, informed by James Brown number Leanin on Slick.
The track is very organic and the Cuban highlife is nowhere to be seen. Only bars and barber shops, not reflective fo a slum, but regular third world living with hard liquor, the scent of cigars and a gorgeous woman behind the bar surrounded by old dudes wih the lessons of life reflected on the wrinkles in their faces and the calm of old age shown in their bowling shits and merino undershirts.
The song is dope, the video is even doper. Cooler than Superfly in a suit and tie. Leanin on Slick.
